Re: I see UKHammocks have got the Dutch Gear in - opinions?

Having received a package of line and gear my immediate opinions are "feck me these things are tiny" closely followed by "blimey, this Zing It really is very yellow". I have no other worthwhile or useful information to add. My career as a gear tester is likely to be extremely sho...

Re: I see UKHammocks have got the Dutch Gear in - opinions?

Was surprised UKhammocks haven't brought those in but no doubt there's a reason.

Gone for a Fly and some hooks to make a full length ridgeline. Lets see how it goes 8-)

job done!
Well, apart from they're out of stock and it's "only" 2.8 by 2.4m. Although not small per se it's not quite the size I was after ;)

Recommend me a tarp (hammock orientated)

Fancy a larger tarp that stands some chance of covering 2 hammocks. That'll only be an occassional set up so I hope it'll double duty as a big, when-weight-isn't-acrucial-issue, better cover in the less clement weather alternative to the asym' one that came with my Hennessey. Possibly hoping for too...

Re: MYOG stoves questions?

Have recently used a Trangia burner in the largest Ghillie kettle. Worked but seemed slow compared to good wood. Would a "bespoke" stove work better do you think? And if it would, does anyone fancy explaining it to an eejit or knocking me one up for beer tokens? And before you ask, I have ...

Re: A Q' for the Hammockers - Top and Under Quilts - Worth I

Yep, was aware of the potential issues from a 2/3rds UQ but wasn't anticipating using it in the grimmer/colder months. Main aim was looking to save bulk and weight (for bike packing) over a Fairydown pit (c.1.2kg) and a Alpkit Wee Airic mat. Let me know what you'd be after for the supershelter. I'm ...

A Q' for the Hammockers - Top and Under Quilts - Worth It?

Looking at the sale (which ends tonight) on UKHammocks site I'm wondering whether it's worth splashing nearly £250+ on their "lighter" TQ and UQ combo. Would be to go on a Hennessey Expedition Asym which, although I've had it for a little while, has had an embarassingly small amount of use...

Given I've got a Hi Gear Blaze would it make either of the aforementioned (god's own metal) pots a better / worse choice?

To use some of this bloody gear I've been stockpiling  Don't care when or where but subject to all the various time and opportunity issues of having the usual full time job, 2.4, dog etc.

A January in Gibraltar and its tunnels means SFA at the start of 2012. Roll on Feb' :(

Re: Last bivi of 2011? Anybody fancy it?

Our efforts to reinstate the inner room at Moel Prysgau at our October meeting went well and a touch of relative luxury has now returned to replace the 'baronial hall' feel of the last couple of years. Hot of the press in the Winter 2011 edition of the MBA newsletter (No.178). Isn't everyone a memb...

The Bottom Line - if you're looking for a light, compact and simple way to warm something up then you shouldn't go far wrong. If you need to boil water then you might be better served elsewhere.

Re: Nant y Moch wind farm.

Vast majorioty of wind turbines likely tobe off shore but they're harder / more expensive to develop so on-shore is easy win at moment and finacial incentives / ROCs stuff makes them attractive to developers. UK is signed up to a "power from renewables" percentage with Europe and so they'r...
