Pointnorth aka profabrics are the best but you can find cheaper if you shop around. The ladderlocks are the heavy duty ones (well worth it as they take quite a lot of tension), the side release buckles are the lightweight ones (they look nice!), webbing is 25mm herringbone iirc (feels silky smooth b...

Nice one cheers. I had a good fettlage of them in Needlesports in Keswick the other week. I like the style of the Rab, specs of the Montane and stretchyness of the OMM!
Quite why they put pockets on ultralight smocks is beyond me.
I wonder why the Demand smock is being discontinued, seems a shame.

Flatfish, was it just the price that swayed you on the Rab Pulse? I'm torn between that and the Montane Minimus, the latter using the same Pertex Shield+ but somehow with a claimed higher HH and about 50g lighter (Montane weights usually surprisingly reliable). The Rab's hood is designed to fit over...

Re: PHD new 'Wafer' range....
Just had an email back from PHD, valuing the feedback but they have no intention of doing a half zip version or dropping the pointless pocket zips.
It's a missed trick imho.

Another MYOG bar harness...
I've used this simple strap system for few years now on various bikes. It's; Simple and cheap to make. Very stable. Keeps drybag off headtube/levers Allows free passage of cables. Lightweight circa 70g http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q292/Cillit-BANG/IMAG0351_zps4ab978c6.jpg Drybag obviously stra...

Gearne G.Rinta trail shoes. Great Vibram sole for bikeyhikey duty and SPD compatible, 3 Velcro straps still my favourite closure by far. Well chuffed, certainly beats tottering up Scafel in my Sidi's :) Ordered Sat, arrived Monday- good Ol' Royal Mail. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q292/Cillit-...

Re: MYOG bar harnesses and bar bags with Jones Loops
My MYOG bar harness cost about £5 in parts and works in exactly the same way most others do. 2 tight 25mm straps from bars (1 either side of stem) down to crown to create cradle, then a big loop off each to cinch around a dry bag. Has worked brilliantly over last 2 year's altho ill admit I've never ...

Re: Rate my tarp
Personal fav.
Watch the loose wheel version in winds, it can wobble and fail. By keeping it close to the tarp you can usually catch a couple of tie-outs on a tyre lug to help with stability.

InspiredRamblings, that trip looks fantastic well done, I was hoping to see a report after ur post about where to go in Peaks. The descent off W.L.Tor down to Ladybower Inn is one of my all time fav's. Even fully loaded it doesn't loose that fast swoopy jumpy magic! And yup, the rocky trail down to ...

There is a saying in there somewhere about treating symptoms or finding a cure?....
Do you need a 'load of clothes'? :)
Lightweight travelling isn't about what you buy, more the stuff you can live without.
But yep, the WC Tiger is a great versatile design.

Re: PHD new 'Wafer' range....
For me the vest fits the following criteria for bivvy/camping duty- 2 season use Emergency daytime warmth Evening wear once camped up Nightime use to boost their Ultra sleeping bag, or if warm enough (nearly always) used in conjunction with an Exped SL pillow to aid comfort. For 3 season+ I'd be tak...

Loaded up and with 'unfit' legs, don't be too despondent at having to walk a lot of the Mam Tor/Rushup climbs. Even unloaded I know a lot of riders that will be off pushing.

PHD new 'Wafer' range....
Very exciting email from PHD with a link to their new ultralight 'Wafer' vest using a new 10denier fabric. Lighter than the old Ultra, check. Smaller down compartments, yup prefer that style. Emergency loo roll, measured and stored folded neatly in a doubled up zip-lock bag. Ear plugs handy for if its a windy night. Compass. Lhoon or spork or...... Even though it's not significantly better than my PHD Minimus vest, I can't help but wish for the Ultra version. Problem is I would only wear it for bikepacking, whereas the Minimus I wear day in day out.

Re: How much does your bike weigh?
Rigid ti 69er was dipping sub 17lb when a fixie, new Solaris is circa 24-25lb (not fussed to put it on scales) at a guess and rides one heck of a lot better for it. Many many years of weight weenie bikes, only conclusion is that they are better for lifting over stiles/gates and into van at end of da...

For general trail use I spent ages finding one that had only the stuff I needed without surplus tools. Crank Bros 17 for an all in one, lovely quality and good weight and I know I can rely on it. Avoid Birzman if you actually plan on using it over admiring/weighing it. Most disappointing piece of ju...

Re: Thermarest Haven -6°C (20°F) Sleeping Bag?
Altho, maybe I've read it wrong somewhere, as the top bag you link does indeed have an EN rating :!: I suspect your PD has better down, but if you were to remove the 300g of down that's hypothetically on the underside half of the PD and used it with an insulated mat instead, would that make it any w...

Re: Thermarest Haven -6°C (20°F) Sleeping Bag?
The EN13537 classification is fairly well accepted, although largely recognized as being misleading, it does help to compare one bag against the next. Top bags and quilts are excluded from the ratings though, as they can't be compared like for like. We're arguing the same point mind, that real world...

Re: Thermarest Haven -6°C (20°F) Sleeping Bag?
The problem with relying on the figures alone is that there is no mention on the r-value the mats that the bags tested in conjunction with. In fact, iirc, there is no recognised formal classification for top bags for this very reason. I'm not knocking the bag, or top bags in general, just that given...
