Re: Great pictures

I still like this one I took on the 2012 WRT, typical type 2 fun. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7086/7157883767_dcbd35073d_z.jpg P1050172.jpg by nickgilling , on Flickr I also took this one a couple of days later when we were having some type 1 fun. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7227/7343137672_82a0...

Are you one of the group of four who we bivi'd with in the pub garden last year. 4 people x two rounds = 8 pints :YMAPPLAUSE: :YMAPPLAUSE: :YMAPPLAUSE: , and I thought I was a drinker!

I used to brew my own beer, anyone who has bumped into us on the Saturday night of the WRT thing will know just how closely associated beer is.

I'm not cutting through 20 scotch pines with that thing! Needs some blokes, some ropes and big chainsaw, could probably rustle up all that, but the land is private and might not actually have any bridleways on it... :o What we need is one of these: http://www.clark-engineering.com/media/uplo...

Re: When will it end....

Yeah I've lost most of my enthusiasm for riding locally, most of the trails have trees across them, one spot that was really quite good fun is now almost totally impassable. So Slacker and I went to the Long Mynd on Saturday and had a lot of fun, only Minton Batch was wet (as usual), most of everyth...

Re: instant porridge oats with milk in sachets ?

I've used this stuff before, which is good hot or cold (better hot of course). Quite sweet and apparently full of all sorts of good stuff that you need, who knows. Ate it out of the bag and it tasted good. http://mountainfuel.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Mountain_Fuel-2.jpg http://mountainfuel.c...

Re: How Did You Get Into Bikepacking?

Probably reading the report of the first WRT in 2009, scrounged together a few bits and bobs and went and slept in the sheep shed on top of the Long Mynd. Didn't die (although tried to kill myself with beer and curry in Church Stretton beforehand), signed up for WRT 2010, would have died there if we...

Re: New waterproof jacket

Ah sorry, no hood.

I bought a Montane Minimus jacket that has a hood, it's lighter and packs down much smaller, but I prefer the Convert.

Re: New waterproof jacket

I have an Endura Convert jacket, I can't remember how long I've had it, at least six years. It's never let me down, I don't over heat in it, it keeps me properly dry. It has a bit of substance to it, which is reassuring in really bad weather, but it's not too heavy (400g I think) It converts into a ...

Re: When will it end....

Direct domestic consumption is "only" 29% of all energy consumed in this country. So industrial demand needs to be managed downwards too. The problem is that we don't see the cost of energy in the products and services we consume. Industry pays about half what domestic customers pay for en...

Re: When will it end....

Was going to head over to the Long Mynd today, but in the end decided I cba with the driving to ride and then dealing with the wind. So I went out for a local 20 miles, the trails were actually better than I expected, a lot less mud or churned up ground, lots of trees down of course and that made fo...

Re: Bar Harness - Why...?

I managed my first year of bivvying with and 18 litre dry bag lashed to the bars with webbing straps, the other three fella's I ride with have managed 4 WRTs like this. My 456 frame still bears the scars (rubbed away the head tube sticker),.a it is bit of a pain to get lashed on nice and tight so it...

Already got a family weekend up in the Lakes booked for that weekend, shame as my mum lives on the South Coast the other side of Bournmouth so would have been ideal (to abandon the wife and kids there and go off riding  )

Not very bikepacking'y I'm afraid, got a set of Mudhuggers for my Trance, while neat enough they weigh about 300g and make an already fairly ugly bike no prettier... Still hopefully they will mean I will go out and play a bit more in the mud https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-woKA-wxvN5g/UvqvekUsy4I...

That's great! We're having a re-organisation here now the kids are a bit bigger and my wife and I have managed to secure ourselves a room to use as an office and work room. Going to put a nice long table under the winder for Ali to have her sewing maching on, I'll have to print and frame this to go ...

Re: Can you tell what it is?

Yes I suspected what it was - I was thinking about something like this for my fargo and the wildcat mountain lion harness - was going to get just a strip of metal, drill it and bolt it to the hole at the top of the Fargo fork, this was if just running the straps around the top of the fork didn't wor...

Re: Cooking tips

Starbucks Via sachets have relegated all other forms of coffee making to the kitchen at home, it's quick, it's hot (unlike drip coffee), it weight almost nothing, and it tastes pretty reasonable especially if you don't drink it out of a titanium mug. When ever I'm traveling I'm always on the look ou...

Along with Wendy Houses, you can add rat infested sheds, rugby pitches, pub back gardens, boggy but comfortable forests, sheep sheds (Pole Bank, Long Mynd) and recreation fields, B&B's in Dolgellau & Llanrhaeadr and the White Lion in Mach :D

It's all good :)

Re: If there were a UK 'gravel race' ...

Can NRW really dictate stuff like this on public right of ways? They are not all public right of ways though, e.g. traditionally the FC have allowed walkers and cyclists to use the forest tracks when they are not in use for forestry work, probably in part to exempt themselves from maintaining the R...

Agree with Fantastic, complete bummer. But, This is (maybe was) a free event, organised by you all in your spare time, with no reward other than the satisfaction gained from doing something that 120 odd people would have looked back on as a great achievement. So any disappointment is directed at the...

Re: Cooking tips

I tend to just use the dehydrated meals, I like one brand called "Adventure Food" £4 from Go Outdoors. Heat water, pour in pouch, reseal, heat water for drink, eat and drink, happy. When first starting out it was two pot noodles decanted into plastic bags, one pot noodle pot. Make a pot no...
