I've just finished reading "Feet in the Clouds" so that's going on the watch later list, thanks for sharing.

Good grief...

That looks great and terrible all at the same time.

I become eligible in May...

Can't believe people can run that far in that terrain.

The Joss Naylor requires a significantly faster pace than the Bob Graham: 12hrs for 46 miles vs 24hrs for 66 miles, it's reckoned better to wait until you are 55 and have 15hrs time limit.

Not seen Lakes in a Day or Lakeland 100 then? 100 mile races...admittedly slightly better paths for most of them, also quite a bit more boring than real fell racing. But still hard. Quite enjoyed my first 50 miler in the Lakes last year, was easier than I expected on legs that were trained for the Divide rather than hammering along armoured paths!

Already looking forward to this years racing that I've planned: Jura, Ennerdale, Wasdale, Borrowdale, Fairfield and maybe Kentmere fitting in between a Lakeland MM (Saunders - Kirkfell class) and hopefully the OMM. With the Lakes being closer it's easier to dedicate time to training for one day running races than multi day bike rides this year. Supporting a few friends and club mates on BGR rounds again this year, then hopefully will see what September brings.

If you've never tried fell racing, any of you, do it. Wonderful community, lovely people, and great places to get into. Easy short races are your gateway drug for the bigger things down the line.

Fell running is something I always felt I should have done, but years of club running as a teenager took their toll on the enjoyment factor. Every time I go somewhere hilly I think of fell running, but it is not to be. The good runners make it look so effortless, and "Feet in the Clouds" is a brilliant read, makes you want to just go and do a real fell race.

Thanks for that link John :-bd

passed it to my old fell running buddy - it made him feel 30 years younger and he feels like fell running again....(except he's recovering from myeloma so it would be a lot tougher than when we did races 30 odd years ago, in the Lakes)

But the spirit is still there...

...Steel Fell. You'd not want to carry a bike up there.
