Packable Waterproof Jacket

Post by Chew »

My rab jacket is great for winter use but it doesnt pack small, so this weekend i had to leave it at home (got away with it)

Any recommendations for a jacket for summer use?
Something which would keep off the worst of a summer shower off me and pack down small (thinking tennis ball size)

I dont know what your budget is but the lightest fully waterproof jacket i can think of is the montane minimus smock (http://www.webtogs.co.uk/montane-men-s- ... tAodiz0A5g) i also know that inov8 do a similar jacket (http://www.inov-8.com/New/Global/Produc ... .html?L=26)
Hope this helps
Ben

Ok i lied

Have a look at the Altura Pocket Rocket - packs really small and keeps most of the rain out but wouldnt call it a fully waterproof jacket. Can be had for under £40 depending on your size and colour preference but around £60 is more likely.
I'm just going outside ...

Outdoor Research Helium jacket is under 200g, packs to nowt and is fully waterproof ... nice and cheap here, if a womans size 12 fits you (which I imagine it would) http://www.daleswear.co.uk/?action=shop ... &ref=gbase

Just to confuse things, karrimor also do a Helium jacket, bit heavier but cheapness abounds at £27.

There's also plenty of windproof tops out there that are less than 100g and will keep most of a shower off.

I really like my Montane singletrack. Showerproof but dries really quickly and is great for summer. A hooded version would be perfect for summer outings. I find gore tex stays wet for a long time...

The dhb Minima is excellent, IMO - usually makes its way into my pack for all but the most torrential of weather, in which case my Endura eVent full weight jacket comes out.

I have a Montane Velocity and a tiny Montane windproof. The velocity packs down to the size of a large orange and is quite a baggy fit. It's never been that waterproof. The windprooproof packs up smaller than a tennis ball, is a good fit and is pretty showerproof.

Is it a genuine waterproof (in so much as anything can be!)?

I got an Altura Pocket Rocket from ebay for £35 brand new. It packs down very small (tennis ball size), is around 110g and is totally waterproof. I'm quite impressed with it.

The OMM smock is really good too. Designed for running, packs small, good hood. Not cheap tho.
