The way it's fighting the cup looks like it means business. Looks serious :o

Edit: definitely a jumping one. Just jumoed sideways in the cup as I was removing the plastic top (inverted).

A mate of mine was bitten by one like that.
He's dead now.

Sad to hear. Found the bugger in the shed where bike housing was being made... I guess there's only one thing to do...

Probably Nuctenea umbratica, the walnut orb-weaver spider.

Bites can sting, but they're generally considered non-dangerous, and even beneficial.

Aren't they the ones that tend to spin their webs across single track? You only see them when your about to plough through, and then it's a case of scrabbling around trying to find where it ended up!

 I'd have been off in the other direction at high speed. It annoys me that places like Oz and the southern states of USA will forever be out of bounds due to my (irrational) fear of eight legged things...

Me too Phil. Honest. Snakes and scorpions, bears and lions, wasps and hornets. I try to stay away from em all...

I'd happily take all of those in exchange for getting rid of ticks. On second thoughts maybe not the snakes. Rattlesnakes really give me The Fear.

I agree. Ticks are nasty. I think I've only ever had one or 2 embedded and it wasn't pleasant. Tick-tool, reminds me I needed to get one!
