Fork bags.

Post by woodsmith »

Haven't used them yet but will need to next year hopefully and wondering where is the weight best carried to effect the steering the least. My bike, Surly ECR, has two sets of mounts per leg. So which is better, infront of the fork or behind?

Behind will generally have a stabilising / self centering effect. In front will do the opposite.

Behind for me, keeps the weight inside the axle, also the bags are slightly less exposed.

Thanks chaps. Much as I'd suspected. I've always run the bottle cages behind the fork leg but more from an imagined aerodynamic  advantage than anything else

My Silk Road only has rearward facing mounts. Have done a few (local) trips with fully loaded PX fork bags and was surprised that I quickly forgot they were there once riding!
