Definitely. Borderer was ahead of the curve with crocs. Love the idea for rainy rides - water just drains out. Forget all those 'waterproofing' fabrics.
Compass? Light? Anyone remember those 'Wayfinders' shoes from the 70s(?) with the compass hidden in the heel and various animal paw prints on the soles ( which left a VERY confusing trail ) ?
Not quite sure what the gaiters actually help though? And how long's that stashed line going to stay there next to a whirling chainring?

Maybe they're Kevlar, a sort of anti-dog-bite defence?

I recall hearing of a guy who cycled around the world in crocs. Didn't need to carry other shoes, cool in summer, water runs out in winter, cheap and easily replaceable.

I know this isn't what the thread was opened for but it allows another take on things so I'm just gonna throw this here. Not totally waterproofed which they did on purpose to allow quicker drying.
Am seriously thinking of these for winter cycling on the road bike. The metal spd thing might act like a bit of a heat sink but I'm thinking the CrankBros cleat-thingies can be had in an alloy material so less of a p4oblem than pure steel/metal...

Re: The ultimate bikepacking shoe?
I vaguely remember having shoes with compasses in the heels.
Don't remember animal tracks though.
I think I was six or seven.
Also spent a lot of time in wellies.
What was the question?

They were also promoted by the Scout Association. I had the shoes (compass and animal tracks) but really wanted the boot. That had an extra wee pocket on the "cuff" for a first aid kit*
