Do I need an ESTA?
You’ll need one if:

You're a UK citizen or a citizen from another visa waiver country visiting the US
Your trip is for 90 days or less and is for business or pleasure
You’re arriving by plane or cruise ship – you don’t need an ESTA if you’re driving into the US from Mexico or Canada
I got one anyway just in case. Too much at stake to be held up for the lack of a bit of paper.

A year or so back I drove across the border from Canada to the US. Flicking through my passport the TSA guy spotted an entry stamp made within the previous 60 days on an ESTA. Great he said. Saves you parking and going through the office, which can take some time.
