Best lighter/fire starter.
Not being a smoking I don’t know much about lighters, so can anybody recommend a good lighter ? I normally use my fire knife but I have to go on a plane soon and I think it wouldn’t be a good idea to take it. Ideally on of these mini flame thrower type lighters would be great and a flame of about two inches so I can use it with the biolight.
Many thanks

I use cheapo refillable ‘jet’ lighters and have a spare micro petrol lighter

Cheers guys ,haevyou ever taken them on a plane, are they ok in checked baggage?
Re: Best lighter/fire starter.
I haven’t tried to fly with one.
But I think you’re allowed a lighter, but you may have to keep it ‘on your person’.
Best to check with your airline to be sure though..

Where are you flying to Duncan? If Spain, there's a huge network of "Asiamarkt" shops which sell this type of lighter for about €1haevyou ever taken them on a plane, are they ok in checked baggage?
Edit: disregard this, looks like you're flying in a totally different direction.

Yeah BA say not lighters or matches, looks like I will have to pick up whatever I can find locally.Wotsits wrote:I haven’t tried to fly with one.

Yep, Sweden. Unfortunately I also cannot take my Swedish Fire knife on the plane, ironic when it was made there. I'm sure I'll be able to pick up something locally.pistonbroke wrote:Where are you flying to Duncan? Could you not pack it with your bike? I'd have thought it would only be a problem in cabin luggage.dlovett wrote:Unfortunately I also cannot take my Swedish Fire knife on the plane...

BA say no in any luggage, and I guess if I did put it in the hold and they then found it there might be trouble.Landslide wrote:Could you not pack it with your bike? Re: Best lighter/fire starter.
I ended up getting a usb arc style lighter light off of eBay. It's proved to work perfectly. You get about 300 seconds of ignition from a full charge. Charge using micro usb cable in about 2 hours. Charges fine off of powerbanks and hub dynamo/lights.

Re: Best lighter/fire starter.
To be honest it's now multi-use. At home it's replaced all the normal disposable lighters we had for candles and when we are out and about with the bio light as well. It's also instant for oil burners and our little bio fire in the flat. With gas canisters stoves and bbq's its also an instant light, where as with my lack of skills, striking a light takes ages. Plus it is plane friendly for traveling.
