Dyno hub usb charger dark art stuff....
Hi Folks....
Looking at a dynamo hub, even though just bought an ANKER charging battery.......
Blurb reads "We do not recommend charging your expensive electronic gadgetry directly from the hub dynamo. It provides an unregulated AC output that you will need to convert via a USB charger to provide a reliable DC current."
I understand why but don't know what I need to say charge phone or run a light. Or indeed top up my ANKER.
Is it just a type of lead I need or a 'regulator box' and lead?
Or just use the ANKER
Cheers for pointers

You need an AC to DC converter, something like the Cycle2Charge: http://bearbonesbikepacking.blogspot.co ... ckery.html & http://bearbonesbikepacking.blogspot.co ... cle2charge for Stu's take on it.

Or ewerk USB which has built in cache battery. It is the expensive option but then it is good - so far.
I got mine of eBay along with a son 28 dynamo.

I use a sinewave revolution USB charger. It's been faultless so far and has had a fair bit of use. Mark

E-werk and cache battery, must be coming up for 5 years old now and still works flawlessly. Pay top dollar, but only buy once.

I've a Sinewave revolution with a ravpower 9000mah battery that will work as pass through charging. Anker batteries I have found do not allow pass though charging.
One thing I have found great with the Sinewave revolution, is it will allow direct charging to an iPhone. Very efficient way of charging the iPhone and means I don't need to use my backup battery much.

I have a spare USB e-werks. PM me for more details if interested.

Interesting stuff. I'm also looking for a usb charger and considering a B&M USB Werk because of the build in buffer battery. Can the B&M withstand the shocks off rough mountainbike trails? I'm asking because a friends USB Werk broke down during a bikepacking trip over rough descends.
