interested in seeing the route and getting out on some of it :)
Re: Braunton 150
Have been thinking of riding this as ITT starting late in the afternoon of the group start, is ITT at the same time as the main ride frowned upon in any way?

Re: Braunton 150
No frowning of any kind. You can ride it when you like.
Dropping the route on the website later today.

Thinking of booking some camping for this. Anyone know what Lobbs field is like? seems sensibly priced unlike some other options nearby. Easy walk into braunton, few km to saunton sands on quiet roads.
Will be there for (most of) the week before family holiday stylee

Stayed there a couple of times. Once in the campervan and last time arriving by bike with tent. The usual shower blocks (tidy), children's play area, no club house. I believe the is a food "shack". They were very helpful last time I went.
Easy short stroll into The village.

Re: Braunton 150
Lobb field would be ideal. It is only a mile pootle into the village and you are not far from the beach.
I thought about asking the people who run it if they would do a group kind of deal for riders - and let peeps leave their cars there over the weekend.

Went out and did the Westward 50 miles of this today, very tough going in places. Hoping for sun and dryer trails But some good new sections of the area for me

There's info about using Lobb Field on the event website - http://www.braunton150.org/?page_id=68
We've booked in for the Thursday night. Just hoping things are going to dry up.

Looking forward to this but will come down in the morning from Bristol. 11.00am start sounds good. What are the likely conditions under wheel? Not sure whether ikons or beavers are the way forward...
Re: Braunton 150
I'll be there... and running XR4s because ehhh, I can live with the rolling resistance.
Re: Braunton 150
Maybe I'll stick on the B+ wheels I built up. But I think I'll need all the help I can get fitness wise, so will probably just stay 29er...
Re: Braunton 150
Where its bad, its bad. and tarmac in between. Im going for mud tyres unless it goes all tropical on usianpv wrote:Looking forward to this but will come down in the morning from Bristol. 11.00am start sounds good. What are the likely conditions under wheel? I'm sticking (sic) with XR4/XR3 for now. If the not forecasted heat-wave gets here then I might fit the XR2/XR1 combo

Re: Braunton 150
I am not commenting on the weather. Its dry at the moment and Exmoor has been glorious. If we get a good run up to the 25th it will be much easier to ride.
The weather has been VERY wet though, so its soft in places, and if it rains again the ground is saturated so it will quickly get shitty.
The route takes in everything though, with some quite rocky sections. So a durable tyre choice would be sensible.
Any more info needed let me know.
Cheers

Re: Braunton 150
Did a seriously muddy ride today and my XR4s were awful. I don't know if it's because I hadn't cleaned them of the dried mud from the ride before, or just because they don't shed mud that well... but I'm seriously considering a full on rear mud tyre if it doesn't dry out a bit down there.

Re: Braunton 150
What are the parking options if I drive up Friday morning, and leave the car, then drive back straight after? I don't need to camp as I'm only an hour away...
Was originally planning to ride there/back too, but too busy with work.

The car park in town is per hour, and not friendly for leaving it for any amount of time. We park up on Wrafton Road EX33 2BT

Re: Braunton 150
The Saunton estate on the way out of town towards the beach is always a good bet. As long as you don't take the piss outside someones house/drive you will be fine. Homer Road is good (or around there) and only a mile from centre of village.

Re: Braunton 150
ps - the trails are getting much better. I think most tyres struggle when it is boggin. I have been running well worn Rocket Ron Racing Ralp combo and it has been fine.
Its gert lush out there at the moment.

Re: Braunton 150
Thanks for the extra parking options.
Trails are drying up nicely all around here, rode up to the Quantocks on Sat, was lovely and dry, and around here (east devon) today, it was bone dry! finger's crossed it stays that way!
