A bit late to this but if you were looking for a roadie route, the back end of the Severn Across audax gets you mostly in the direction of Egham from Chepstow and picks up some fairly nice roads. http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Se ... Audax-2009
Mind you, full disclosure, I never did the last 80k as part of the ride when I did it. We were leaving Membury Services (lots of confused motorists) at the right time to form up a bit of casual group and TTT it down the A4 all the way to Slough. A lot less bad than it sounds.
Still, back to your route, if you were to head from Membury down to Newbury, head down to Mortimer Common and then the mostly straight line route to Ascot, you'd have the basis for a fairly descent route.

Typically, there's a cruel east wind out there
Thanks to Dave for the route here - very enjoyable. I made it up the White Horse climb, but it was tough...

Aye - that twin climb of Broad Town and Hackpen Hills is a bit of a beast. Nice reward down the other side though.
Are you headed out on the Ramsbury road?

I'm done. Got to Reading. The canal from near Hungerford to Reading is tough..,
235km on the board, 1900m ascent. 14 hours of constant head wind. Technically still 50km left on my route, but not got the legs for that...
