West Shrops/Mid Wales bivvy

Post by Scattamah »

Heading out this weekend somewhere...no idea where, just out to bag a night under the stars. Could be Long Mynd...could be Kerry Ridgeway...could even be tempted to go somewhere different.

Any riding will be mellow due to the knee situation. Company welcome.

[Edit: leaving Shrewsbury around mid afternoon...gives enough time to find somewhere for dinner then move on to wherever looks good to pitch]

Sure thing, Mike. Sing out when you're keen...it's just down the road from here. I'm due for the Tywi event, Tussuck Racing in BB land and BB200 but other than that, any time is good.

Cool. Lets try get something organised over the coming weeks.

3rd weekend in August could work for me, otherwise September is looking good.

Sounds like a plan.

If y'all can swing this weekend (perhaps too short notice), the weather is looking right for it. But I'm good for anytime, including school nights. Don't have a problem going up this weekend and later in the month...all good practice and nice riding to boot.

3rd weekend in August is currently empty for me as are 3rd 'n 4th weekends in Sept. Let me know when and I'll scribble it in.

Ooh, I might be up for this weekend. I'm possibly helping at a star gazing event at nipstone on Saturday night and was thinking of biking home to Shrewsbury over the Stiperstones via a bivvy.

No worries, Chris. If yer keen fer this weekend, perhaps meet up @ Bridges? Not tried the food there but the Three Tuns on tap is always a pleaser. Got a couple of options to get back up the top then. It's a climb whichever way :)

My timings are looking dubious this weekend, the event isn't starting til 8pm so I'm guessing I'm going to be aiming to roll out of Shrewsbury around 5 to get to nipstone for the start then head back up onto the Stiperstones to get pitched around midnight once it's done.

Pitch up by the Chair? Slacker's D2D route from last Dec. had a nice bit of singletrack that turned right onto a gravel climb up between the Chair and another high point...could be some spots thereabouts...I might have to go take a peek tomorrow :)

@Chris - spotted a little patch of grass that might work for a couple of people just near SO 36335 97754. I took a wrong turn tonight and saw it by accident...looks somewhat flat and a little sheltered. Not too far from Nips. Pitching up by the Chair or Cranberry seems like no go...I didn't see anything on the west side of those areas that wasn't covered in vegetation or rocks.

With the weekend fast approaching, I'm aiming for another excursion up onto Long Mynd Saturday evening.

Any interested parties...let me know either here or by PM and times/meeting places/watering holes can be batted about.

For any folks up for a night on Long Mynd...leaving Shrewsbury for 2pm...easy riding up to the Port Way, climb up to Pole Bank, drop down the west side (TBD), back up the hill again, down the east side (TBD). Chow 'n beer in the Ragleth in Little Stretton after 7pm or thereabouts...roll around to the fire road at the south end, climb up and veer off to the first right for a night out.

Might see ya out there... :)

You'd be glad you didn't make it Mike 'n Jase. See 'Todays Ride' thread for the horror story.

Accuweather is saying 1-2mm of patchy showers. Should be ok, but do bring a shell.
