Trans Cambrian Bothies

Post by Karl »

Me and a friend are doing this out and back from Knighton in August over a leisurely 4 days. Was wondering if anyone could point us in the direction of bothies along the route. We are expecting to camp but maybe nice if the weather turns bad that we have options.

Any help much appreciated.

If it helps, the M.B.A. bothies are listed on the M.B.A. website with GRs. Remember to join up. I think one of the Elan Valley bothies may not be M.B.A. but I am sure someone else here will confirm that.

I fancy a ride of this, as usual I'll be billy no mates I expect but can anyone advise on travel logistics.

Hope to have a car available by then and it will be at a weekend so saturday / sunday. Plan would be to take in most of the miles on day 1 and finish it off day 2 enjoying a nice bivi somewhere pretty to wake up.

Is it best to park at shrewsbury and just hop on the train to / from the start finish?

Ta.

How about parking your car in Mach', hopping on the train to the start then riding back?

Car would be very safe in Mach'.

it was the choice of a 7.03 train or a 12.07 train that put me off.

Thinking it through though, the best thing to to there would be get the 12:07, riding by 3pm and given the car is in Mach, it wouldnt matter about finish time.

Not a bad plan.

Mach' parking.
Drive into town, Spar on your right.
Turn L at the T junction - clock tower in front of you.
SA the first and second mini RA
Turn L at the next RA (it's a proper one)
Follow the road round into the free / quiet car park.
May the bridges you burn light your way

From Mach, you have to go through Shrewsbury...change trains here and go south to Knighton.

@FLV - if you decide to park in Shrews...gimme a yell - I'm a 5 minute ride from the station and have a car spot that I never use that yer welcome to.

Cheers S,

I like the idea of the car being there when I finish, that way I can forget about worrying on trains. good times.
