Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I've made a 'traditional' bivvy bag and I tested it in various conditions in the garden just to see how it held up. An hour of rain bouncing off my head wasn't much fun. I love the sound of weather (outside ) when camping in a 'proper' tent so I'm trying to figure out what would be the minimum to be able to rest properly. I have ideas about integrating everything as well. It's more just the fun of making stuff really and I get to make stuff for my size: short ass.JimmyG wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 11:12 amThanks, it was a nice little spot. Re heavy rain: Rest assured I'm unable to sleep through it, too. However, it's a nice, cosy feeling being safely under cover while listening to the raindrops smacking off my tarp. Ideally not all night, though!
I'm assuming you're referring to making your own bivvy bag? We've all seen hooped bivvies that go some way to keeping the material off your face, etc. but if it's raining or threatening to, I much prefer being under a tarp. Gives you much more room to move around and you can also orientate it to create a degree of protection from the wind/wind-driven rain. I've slept in a bivvy bag on several occasions in varying degrees of rain and whilst I stayed dry inside, it wasn't pleasant feeling the rain drops constantly hitting the bag. I definitely didn't sleep through that!

Hey Shafiq, I'm in the club too! I have all the best intentions and then life gets in the way. If I get 12 in a row then great. If not I've probably had a good laugh trying. I like being part of the forum as it does give my motivation a boost when I'm wavering and getting out is definitely good for me. Look forward to reading about your adventures!redefined_cycles wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 9:53 am Hi.

Next time (if I'm still alive) I will:
*Start in January.
*Head out at the start of the months.
*Not think about luxurious BAM plans and keep em simple.
*Take more cold showers!
All the best everyone and it's been nice whilst it lasted

That's about the size of it .
Still 2 nights to go anyway, so it's all to play for, and as my neighbour used to say "Friday? It's steppin' out night man!". Or possibly pedallin' out night.

Sadly the 14 month streak is a gonner. A combination of work, life, weather and now a nasty cold has ruled out a bivvy. Never mind. Onwards next month with some chances for at least two nights out and some proper outings.

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Left it real late this month for the March BAM Cabin In The Woods Edition, was meant to go last Friday but a 130 mile round trip to Caernarfon for the lads football match with a kick off time of 18:15 and not getting back home till gone 22:00 finished that plan off and a busy weekend and work Monday meant my last chance for this was after work on Wednesday and before my nights on the Thursday.
So after tea I sorted my kit out and set out around 21:00 to head out to The Cabin In The Woods that I've said for a while I'd have a kip in one day, the weather turned sour after around 4 mile so when I arrived at base camp I was pretty soaked.
After finding a few screws here and there to hang the coat and jersey up on plus the fact the Cabin had no windows and only 10-15% of the floor left intact, the breeze was flowing nicely but not enough to dry much out just glad to get this one done as the weather hasn't been great. Must try and get things done earlier in future

Yup, Cheddar and kabanossi. Not pictured, curry spiced "ancient grain"* chips. They were pretty good. World's worthiest porridge this morning though.
A cosy night's dozing on and off. Punctuated by rather more passing trucks from the local quarry than I'd anticipated throughout the early hours.
It had been dry when I headed out, but rain set in overnight, and I was very glad of my waterproof socks on the way home.
2023 BAM 3/12
2023 total bivvies 3
Current streak (months) 52

Sorry just noticed 'Dream Cycle" oat meal stout. Deserve a gold star for that I just saw 'tins of beer' initially.
If I thought it wouldn't give me disaster pants I'd have liked to try that.

Unless I've missed a post, the only contestants not checked in for February are Javatime, Jose, Kumquat, and Zippy I think. I believe Pip's in?

3 Rooms in total, not sure of the history of it tbh maybe a store of some sort as there is a farm across the field. The annexe part has two small rooms but with no floor at all in either of them one looking like it may of been a bog at some point.

Once again faced with a last night stand, mainly due to work, on a day and night full of heavy rain.
Already soaked cycling during the day, my need to stay dry dictated a local trip.
Time to experiment with kit, very pleased with the outcomes, feeling readier than ever for WRT.
Used my Robens Starlight for protection from rain. New arrivals: Sonder Confucius loop handlebar, Alpkit Deluge 20 litre handlebar bag, Alpkit Cloudbase air mat, footprint made from heavy gauge polythene sheet.
