Somebody just posted this over on trek-lite, a quick search here didn't turn anything up so thought I'd share it

Am I missing something or isn't the bike going to take up a large percentage of the space under the tarp leaving not much of any room for the human?

I'm surprised it doesn't come with a sleeping mat for the bike, as its seems to be a tarp for bikes that want to keep there human out the rain.

At least that's a bit more considerate than the usual approach of throwing you off, then acting like a heat-seeking missile.

I suppose any large enough tarp can be set up in a similar fashion ... just why would you?

Only reason I can come up with

https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scot ... 962731.amp

I don't tarp but is there not a risk of the bike falling on you in high winds ? Is it really stable enough

It must be difficult carrying those poles on a bike.

And if the bike is muddy it's going to drip all over you.

The sort of riding I do this would be the biggest problem.
Before I got a Gatewood I used a flat tarp for a while. I used to go a set up with my 29+ wheels and unless it was really dry the whole thing was a horrible mess.

Here it is in the dry.

I'd say that was rubbish. 100g pole plus deschutes will be lighter, more internal space, better. My bike may bemoan my unsympathetic view to leaving it out in the rain but its made of metal, so will be fine, whereas I'm a softy and like my home comforts.

Foolishly tried this once with a 3x3 .......a squeeze for 2 and high risk of pedal strike to the face :???:

Only one week into January and we already have a solid candidate for dumbest product of the year.

I really do pity anyone who gets caught up in the 'ooh that's a good idea' and actually buys one. Just like I do with those Topeak Bikecamper things. It's like buying a caravan without wheels and attempting to use two tins of beans in their place because you're already carrying them

have also tried it with a square tarp, works well enough set up this way, plus uses the front wheel to mak more height at the rear.
not perfect but ok.

I am super laughing at the third picture of the tarp. What benefit is the right hand panel offering when the shelter is exposed to the wind?

I've used a couple of wheels to support a tarp. It works well enough. Headroom obviously limited but enough room to sleep and store kit under cover and very stable.
