Uber Bivvy ... shame about the colour.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Came across this the other day. Hooped bivvy, much more room than most, midge net, reasonable price and fairly light for the size at 730g ... but why is it white?

I have just emailed Dave to ask about more UK friendly colours so I will post here when I get a reply :)

Is the whole bivi made out of Tyvek? If so, I think it only comes in white...for roofing applications anyway. I was after some for a tent ground sheet but my roofer mate is getting me some "Roofline", which he says is a lot better than Tyvek. This comes in green but I'm not sure how dark a green it will be.

Could be useful in winter. Any other time of year, I don't imagine it'd stay white for long...

They'd have more room if they "spooned".

Sorry, irrelevant

The whole bivvey is not Tyvek :) The fabric he uses for the actual bivvey part is only available in white and colouring the fabric would reduce breathability.

Worth asking though I guess.

Hi this is Dave from MilesGear. SSP asked me about the white color. I do have a green fabric that I made the first 12 Uber Bivy sacks. This fabric makes the bivy about an ounce lighter but also less durable. This is a lightweight fabric so don't sleep with scissors :) You can see an earlier model at the bottom of the Uber Bivy page with my daughter. I'll watch this thread in case you have more questions.

You might also be interested in the 3-man bivy.

Thanks,
Dave

The single section 65" poles are going to prove somewhat difficult to carry though?

Does look really quite a good size.

It is very easy to coil the poles up to fit in a pack. I usually keep them horseshoe shaped. The single section makes it very quick and easy to insert and remove poles. I've looked at a lot of segmented types but haven't found what I want.
