He lived a rare, inspiring life. The golden years of climbing adventure? The Hard Years is a good book.

An inspirational life, for sure. I rewatched the film of his reunion with Whillans on Cemetery Gates recently. It’s well worth hunting down on YouTube.

A great legacy of amazing routes and productive partnerships. Sad loss.

Sad news - I worked for Joe and Val at the shops for years of my well spent youth. He used to sew harnesses above the shop and could be called on to repair all sorts of things - cycling shoes included

A great but unassuming man with a direct turn of phrase or look and a good one for banter.

If it was not for him and the shops I'd probably not have met Bob.....
