North Yorkshire on line map
I work in transport and have been speaking to the North Yorkshire abnormal loads officer ref their area they send me this link.
It's a full zoom in and out OS map covering the Sheffield to Gateshead East coast North Yorks area
https://maps.northyorks.gov.uk/connect/ ... fg=General
Enjoy
Do any other's on here have secret links like this one for other areas of the UK?

Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but what does that do that the OS layer in Bing maps doesn't?
I find the Derbyshire one useful though, it has an option to highlight ROWs, cycle routes, SSSIs etc.

Zoom in to an urban area. You have Mastermap level detail, ie houses with gardens. You will not get that on bing an I also suspect bing will be dated compared to local authority mapping.Landslide wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 4:44 pm Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but what does that do that the OS layer in Bing maps doesn't?

Re: North Yorkshire on line map
1) why would you need anything more zoom that the 1:25,000 Bing provides?Dave Barter wrote: ↑Mon Mar 09, 2020 5:14 pm Zoom in to an urban area. 2) the source for Bing and local authority is OS for both, so how can one be better than another?

With John saying he was "in transport" I thought the map would be showing things like suitability of roads for HGVs and the like. The Defra map is more interesting as the overlays actually give clues as to land use and management.

Interesting to note that the defra map is wrong for my street, the houses have only been there for 80-90 years too!

On a similar theme, there is an interest LiDAR (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidar) view of the NYM that you can view as a transparicy against late 19thC maps: https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=1 ... s=171&b=13
Never knowingly under biked...
