Midge breeding weather :)
Re: Highland Trail 2019
as long as it's dry... a head net weighs less than a tarp/poles/pegs

Re: Highland Trail 2019
I'm planning on taking a small rucksack as I did on the BB300. Only for my waterproofs, lightweight insulated jacket, first aid kit and some small odds and ends like mini toothbrush, chamois cream etc.
I couldn't work out how it seems much fuller than it did on the BB300? I've just had a shower and it hit me, literally, on the BB300 I was wearing my waterproof jacket and trousers the whole time so I never put them in the rucksack

Re: Highland Trail 2019
The midge forecast has launched and showing a few 2's and 3's in the mid west coast but if the weather stays like it is, they won't be a problem....

Re: Highland Trail 2019
Another ITT rider started this morning - Matthew McWhirr.
Just noticed on TL that there are six singlespeed riders this year.

Re: Highland Trail 2019
So any guesses as to what the weather will be? Will I be able to leave the tarp in the car at Tyndrum?
I'd seen there are more singlespeeders this year, 50% more than last year. Between us we're half an eaglewhitestone wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 7:16 am

Re: Highland Trail 2019
Weather totally changed again - now showing westerlies and light rain in various amounts, temps 8-14 degrees. Likely to change again however so keep yer kit plans flexible. I think this will mean the midges will be an issue in sheltered locations.....
Re: Highland Trail 2019
Left it late with planning my possible re-supply stops. I see from past race reports that the Drumbeg stores opened especially on a Sunday for the front runners. Do people know if this is likely to happen again? Otherwise, it looks like Kylesku hotel is the only place that's likely to be open between Fort Augustus and Kinlochewe. That's quite a way...
Re: Highland Trail 2019
Liam in 2017 Chris and Neil knocked on his door at around 1800, I was around 1900 and Fitz was even around 2100 I think on the Sunday eve. He's a nice guy and hopefully being equally supportive this year.liamg wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 8:50 pm Left it late with planning my possible re-supply stops. Yes...wrong place to ping
They'll be open after hours . Alan G. just confirmed that in his Instagram accountpadonbike wrote: ↑Sun May 19, 2019 8:57 pmLiam in 2017 Chris and Neil knocked on his door at around 1800, I was around 1900 and Fitz was even around 2100 I think on the Sunday eve. Re: Highland Trail 2019
Matt Symonds has just started his ITT. 4 of them to watch now
Re: Highland Trail 2019
Matt Symonds is flying along! He was at Bridge of Balgie by 10:50 so that's over 13 mph average. That's only a couple of minutes slower than Neil Beltchenko was to that point in 2017.journeyman wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 9:11 am Matt Symonds has just started his ITT. 4 of them to watch now

Re: Highland Trail 2019
Matt seems to have stopped since Greg's last post - at the start of the stretch with waterbars…
Meanwhile the others are either forging ahead or foraging at Drumbeg

Re: Highland Trail 2019
Matt's tracker hasn't sent out a position for over an hour which implies a tracker issue rather than him being stopped, hopefully. If he was stopped I'd expect the points to keep being transmitted but be at the same location, if that makes sense.
Each new ITT starter seems slightly quicker than the one before (no offense meant to anyone) so in my head I'm now imagining it as a handicaped race with a staggered start and they should all roll into Tydrum together

Re: Highland Trail 2019
I wonder if they are all on varying schedules to get them back to Tyndrum in time for the group start. Martin seems very relaxed in getting away each morning, it was 8am or so before he was moving this morning for instance.

Re: Highland Trail 2019
Matt's tracker showed 3 or 4 pings from the same location over a half hour period ( you can see if you zoom close in and scroll through previous points)
Re: Highland Trail 2019
Just seen James Hayden on the Group Start. Winner of several TCR's and cowinner of Italy Divide. Interesting!!
Re: Highland Trail 2019
Hopefully he's not had a problem as he was going really well.journeyman wrote: ↑Mon May 20, 2019 5:07 pm Matt's tracker showed 3 or 4 pings from the same location over a half hour period ( you can see if you zoom close in and scroll through previous points)
