There will be Zippy but it's yet to be decided. It will be 'sensible' and allow for a steady average speed though.

Wasn't 30 hours mentioned on the other thread when it was first suggested? Seems about right for whatever colour badge will be the top award for the distance. Obviously dependeds on how hilly it is.... especially for those of us with a single gearianfitz wrote:30 hours?....

Re: BB300
Quick question Stu does this cut down the number allowed to enter the 200 or is it still 80 riders as it looks like I've convinced ma and pa to look after the youngfella for the weekend so I may get to enter the 200

Re: BB300
Still 80 total. It won't really have any bearing as those on the 300 would most likely have entered the 200 anyway.Stu does this cut down the number allowed to enter the 200 or is it still 80 riders
The previous mention of 30 hours was simply an example - don't take it as gospel. I could just as easily have said 20 or 40.

Grand , it looks like it'll be a late tea break that morning so I can get entered
Re: BB300
Probably not the former, unless you're planning on making it a 300k road ride.Bearbonesnorm wrote:I could just as easily have said 20 or 40.

It's unlikely that entries will open until late afternoon. Quite a few will be in the Dales, opening later gives everyone a good chance.Grand , it looks like it'll be a late tea break that morning so I can get entered

Ok so a late afternoon break then or a extended lunch break ,to be fair that's pretty normal when I'm on weekend shifts anyways

Re: BB300
30 hrs requires an average speed about 20% faster than current Black Badge pace, sustained for a further 10 hours. That's quite a challenge.

Since there's a limit on how long the community centre is open/available to Dee and Stuart maybe that's the limit.
I think having a BB200 time well within 24hrs, ideally more than a single one, might be a good idea since most people are going to have to bivy as well so that will eat up some hours. I wouldn't like to be thinking "well I took 23hrs for 200km so that's close to 35hrs for 300km plus I need to bivy". Ensuring zero faffage might be worth it as well

Am I picking up on a subliminal message that it might not be 30 hours?Bearbonesnorm wrote:FFS!!!! NO ONE HAS SAID IT'S 30 HOURS
Not wanting to get a ban here but from the original BB200 goes large thread....
Bearbonesnorm wrote:Both routes will share many parts but obviously the 300 will include additional sections. Unlike the 200, there'll be no multiple time brackets, there will simply be a single time cut-off ... you either complete it in that time and receive your badge or you don't. At the moment, I anticipate a time of around 30 hours.

I think you were about right with 30 hours though. I did the 2017 BB200 in just under 21 hours. The route was nearer 220km so at that pace 300km would take 28hrs 40mins. Could I have kept the pace up for another 80km? Hard to say but hopefully I could have, plus I had 1hr 20mins in hand. I don't consider myself a particularity fast rider, many on here are faster than me, so that time limit would be close to what I could achieve, which is the point isn't it? Hard enough to be a challenge but not so hard that no one makes the cut. Obviously the terrain/gradient etc. will play a big part.
Also, if people get started just after 08:00 then 30 hours is 14:00 the next day. I don't know how long the finish stays open for but that leaves some contingency?
What ever the route/gradient/ground conditions/weather conditions or result I'm sure it will be one of the highlights of my year

Here's an idea. You have to elect your own time. I did a hike like this many years ago in scouts and you had to do a press up for every minute early or late.

Well, much to my seemingly better judgement I’m in.
An element of doubt whether will finish; hopefully the time limit and weather will prove favourable.

Before anyone begins to wonder how David's 'IN' ... he isn't, he just means that he's emailed to say he'd like to ride the 300. He won't be 'IN' until I get his entry after 6 today same as everyone elseWell, much to my seemingly better judgement I’m in.
