Re: TDR 2018
Red Meadow is nice when there is no snow. Took me a few hours to hike through the snow there in 2014 (packed hard but still 4' deep) and maybe 10 minutes to cover the same stretch in 2015 when dry and clear. The 2014 hike was quickened due to loads of bear tracks in the snow and evidence of at least 2 shots of bear spray being released.

Re: TDR 2018
wow, that has made it sound even more epic!
Im so excited about this. I couldnt ever race this, but i retire in less than 3 yrs and i would love to ride the route at about 50 day pace. Im pretty sure it would be doable and i may even get to see things and speak to people.
Im excited

If you include people that have toured it rather than raced then:

The heat took a back seat to the mosquitos who found my uphill pace easy to match. Closely followed by a stream of ambulances steaming downhill towards me.....GregMay wrote:Thankfully rode that at night. It was still unbelievably warm. That place is astonishingly warm.Scattamah wrote: I was happy enough to climb with a 34t, but it made for interesting times. The tarmac climb from Radium to Kremmling in the heat had me wishing for lower.
With the lack of rain in CO and NM I'd be betting on a lot more fire diversions this year.

Re: TDR 2018
vaguely exciting effort from Bailey, but looks like Lewis is going to cruise past him and into the lead while he sleeps.
Re: TDR 2018
Yes, early days yet as well. Interesting to see how much faster Baliey is going already, nearly two days up on his 2016 time.

Does anyone know Dom Irvine? Seems like an interesting character with an End-to-End tandem record under his belt. Currently pushing out an impressive pace on his NoBo attempt.

It's pretty amazing that 2/3 place are both singlespeed.

A lot of walking on the high passes this year, so that'll limit the ... benefit.. of gears.mountainbaker wrote:It's pretty amazing that 2/3 place are both singlespeed.

My wife, who has never been anywhere near the Divide, has been following the Facebook group and "liked" a video of Crazy Larry visiting the woman with the broken arm in hospital. He sends wifey a "friends request" which she accepts, and he is truly "kin mental.

I'm afraid that laptop will have to go in a skip and the HDD lump hammered. It's the only safe way to proceed.Pirahna wrote:My wife, who has never been anywhere near the Divide, has been following the Facebook group and "liked" a video of Crazy Larry visiting the woman with the broken arm in hospital. I saw a video this morning from Bobby Wintle. He had met Bailey and he spoke of waking a sleeping bear during a dark hike a bike section! totally ace!
Re: TDR 2018
Sounds like Balieys normal walk to me
