Do we want another 'Run to the sun'?
Just planning ahead a little and wondered whether there'd be any interest in a second run to the sun around the summer solstice? Similar plan as last year, ride through the night and aim to be at the coast for dawn and the rising sun. Spend some time on the beach then head for home with a night out on the way ... or something like that.
I'd probably choose a less ambitious destination this year and will make arrangements for the sun to appear ... and I won't be ill and unable to attend
Anyway, would anyone fancy it - maybe?

For logistical reasons I can't make the 22-24th weekend so could only do the 15-17th weekend, which isn't really the solstice so that means I'm out
I didn't actually complete the ride last year, I was in the splinter group that split from claerrdu (opting for sleep and the pub instead), still hit both bothys though. The weather on the friday night was particularly interesting

It was fun last year although the sun obviously mis-placed its invitation. I rode in from Llandovery as the southern raiding party and arrived in time to watch early morning rugby (Lions tour), sit in the cloud at the sea front, missed the regular party from Llangurig but had a great ride.
It was a great idea.
Having said all that, I am scheduled to be working on the weekend following the summer solstice this year (although that can be changed).

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

As long as it doesn't include sideways rain , but we will accept sun
Re: Do we want another 'Run to the sun'?
I'd like that, except the crazy hike-a-bike at the start. I'll take tussocks over hamstring-tearing gradient to push up. Rain is fine...but banish the wind please.

In my defence, although steep, it is quite short. Taking it means missing out a good few miles of tedious road and it's chance to use some diferent muscles ... see how I think of yaexcept the crazy hike-a-bike at the start. I'll take tussocks over hamstring-tearing gradient to push up.

Good shout from Scott. That hike a bike wasn't that much fun, I was using the bike as a walking device as my flats have zero tread so don't work on wet, slick muddy grass. When it got slightly less steep is was almost better riding as I wasn't sliding as muchBearbonesnorm wrote:In my defence, although steep, it is quite short. Yeah...I see *grins* I guess you could've made us ride up Golf Course instead.

Re: Do we want another 'Run to the sun'?
Maybe we can ignore the solstice bit and focus on the sun element, which probably means early July - 7th perhaps?

Re: Do we want another 'Run to the sun'?
put a firm date up stu, loved it all last year, worst bit was going in the bothy having a hot brew then trying to force burty out again
it's not that I can and others can't, it's that I will and others won't.

Re: Do we want another 'Run to the sun'?
Okay, shall we say the weekend of Sat July 7th?
If we go for the same format as last year, that'll mean a Fri night meet up late on - maybe in a pub perhaps? A ride through the night aiming for a dawn arrival at the coast followed by a return on Sat with Sat night out in the hills. Yes? No?
