Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
Hello boners.
After some bits, mostly frame + forks to begin with to build a MTB for someone about 5ft 4. What frame size is that? 15.5"? I have various bits and bobs (finishing kit, brakes etc.), mostly spares for 26er, but could plumb to 29er wheels I guess. What have people got available?

Do you want a 26 or 29 inch wheeled bike at the end Zip? Also, mountain, hybrid, CX ... I have lots of things which may suit but it depends what you're after.
May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
Ideally 26er MTB I reckon. Looking at the likes of eBay, there appears to be not much ridden complete bikes where if I'm selective I reckon I could get something non-BSO that's typically £1k new for sub £400. But if someone has say the correct size frame and forks about, I could probably get the rest together of a reasonable quality for not too many pennies.
Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
My son has a Gary Fisher Tarpon full bike which he is looking to offload for not very much. I do want the forks off it though, so you'd need to source some from elsewhere. It's all in good condition, a few light scratches, but no dings. 26" wheels, v brakes, not disc.
Let me know if you are interested and I'll get some photos and more info.

Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
I have a complete, small, Ti hardtail that would likely fit. Frame size is 16". I'd only really consider it a loan though as the frame means too much to me to sell.
The only problem is that it's on loan to someone else and they've been exceedingly tardy about returning it to me. I'm about to go nuclear with them in any case so let me know if you'd be interested.

Thanks Colin - although it sounds a bit good for the application I have in mind.ScotRoutes wrote:I have a complete, small, Ti hardtail that would likely fit. Frame size is 16". I'd only really consider it a loan though as the frame means too much to me to sell.
Thanks but I really can't be bothered with the faff of V-brakes these days!ssnowman wrote:My son has a Gary Fisher Tarpon full bike which he is looking to offload
Very interested - do you have any photos? I am going to be vaguely Wales direction start of April, so this may fit in well.Stevemorg wrote:Any of this any use? The frame fits my wife who's 5ft 4 well

Happy to return the Montana home...I've still not got around to stripping Kadey down and building it up. Got some XT cranks and SLX brakes that would get you further down the build path.

Lovely frame Flash - can I ask how much £

Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
There is some damage, a thumb nail deep gouge on the chainstay where a chainring made contact, you can't see it once the chainring is fitted and it's not altered since I've had it (or the previous owner) so £30 plus postage....
Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
I've got some Suntour XCM 27.5 forks you can have for postage costs...
Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
Interesting Flash - what's the Geo on that? I guess it's a 96er specifically, or does it run 26 ok? Might be a bit too niche tbh with the EBB etc - but I will consider it and see what other parts I have to go with it.
Thanks, but I'll pass as I don't really have anything to match with them!ootini wrote:I've got some Suntour XCM 27.5 forks you can have for postage costs...
Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
I've not tried it with a 26" front wheel, but as a 96er it roles over stuff, accelerates and climbs well. The EBB actually works, it's a hoot to ride....I have no idea about geometries but the frame is hanging on a bedroom wall if you want me to measure anything and at that price if you don't like it, sell it on......:)

Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
The Carver's a touch too small for me (and I've got a 17" awaiting paint) but they're a cracking frame Zip. In fact, one of the few that I ever regret selling. Ran mine both geared and SS, rigid and hardtail and it was always great fun and 'easy' in a light bike kind of way.

Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
Thankyou everyone for offers so far, I'll work out what's what, and where abouts in the country I'm going to over the next couple of months etc. too.
Anyone know what the difference in male vs female bikes are re: frame geo? I can't really find anything particularly definitive about it on the web and just figured I'd adjust stem the adjustable bits about the frame to suit any individualities of people shapes... or am I missing something.
Does everyone agree 15" to 16" frame size is about right?
I'm tempted to built the carver up if I could do it justice - just the only things I really have possibly are bits of finishing kit and brakes for it! It's starting to look cleverer to buy a complete bike as specific kit isn't really a requirement atm and things like headsets, gear cables etc. all add up pretty damn quickly!

Re: Wanted - bike build stuff for small person
Women's geometry bikes tend to assume shorter arms so tend to have a shorter top tube, not sure if there's many other differences.

Chris, I have my wife's Spesh FSR XC here that doesn't get much use now she has the Fatty. It's a small 15.5 iirc. If it's of interest I can send sone pics along. The drivetrain was replaced not long before it stopped getting used.
