The sun shines on the righteous.
I'm going to say this quietly so as not to jinx it but ... I assume you've seen the forecast for weekend? Sunshine and temps approaching double figures. Completely unheard of and I believe an undeniable sign that bikepackers are indeed, God's chosen people.
May the bridges you burn light your way

In the sunny south where I live those temps are a mid-winter low We might also get a light tail-wind for the homeward leg

It's going to go the other way, and we're going to have full on tropical storms.

I've never ridden in that part of the Wales when it hasn't rained.

This is actually on the route, so I'm full expecting a repeat...
Re: The sun shines on the righteous.
Being serious for a moment apart from dark what happens at night?
Does the temperature plunge in the valleys as the sun goes down or is there enough residual heat still around?
Or put it another way lightweight quilt or full on down bag?

Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.
Re: The sun shines on the righteous.
If there’s no cloud cover then it could get chilly. Although worth looking at where the main airflow is coming from as that can influence temperature significantlyMariner wrote:Being serious for a moment apart from dark what happens at night?

Re: The sun shines on the righteous.
They can but obviously much depends upon the valley and its direction. If the forecast really is to be believed, I don't think a full on bag will be called for ... and besides, you don't want to go making yourself too comfortableDoes the temperature plunge in the valleys as the sun goes down

Does depend on weather, if it's clear overnight then things will get colder than if there's cloud cover. There's a mass of warm air predicted to come up from south west Europe so probably things aren't going to get particularly cold. BBC weather for Newtown is showing lows of 13C as an example, even with things generally being a couple of degrees cooler in the country (lack of urban effect) it's still going to be pretty warm.

Re: The sun shines on the righteous.
First time I've looked at the forecast as it should be reasonably reliable now at D-3. Looks similar to last year, which should provide very pleasant riding conditions, and no risk of cold weather injuries overnight. As for sleeping bag choice, how about the lightest thing that will keep you alive if it all goes pear-shaped!? That does assume getting up early enough on Friday to do all the weekend sleeping before the start...

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.
