Salsa Cowchipper alternatives

Post by polarcherry »

Posted on STW but I bet there more knowledge on here.....

Fancy trying these as a move from my 46cm Cowbells but due to the crap pound and salsa skyrocketing prices they are the best part of £90!!! now!

Are there any other alternatives or 'copies' of a similar design?

Not looking for the radical shape of say a woodchipper or OnOne Midge or Gentic bars tried them and didn't like them on the hoods, but a bit more shape than the cowbells but still with the shallow drop

Replied on STW but I'll reply here as well  Alpkit Bombers - https://www.alpkit.com/products/love-mud-bomber Not tried them but have thought about them as an alternative to standard drops.

I'm guessing those Alpkit ones are a bit too flared for the OP tho?

Used many twatty bars over the years. Cowchippers and Luxy are the only two I've really got on with.
-Cowbells are nice for road use.
-Woodchippers have to narrow a flat top.
-Digest are a bit mih from my experience on them, couldn't place it, but it wasn't on my bike.
-Found the Alpkit ones ok, again not my bike so not much time on them.

Prices are what they are unfortunately.

I have Soma Portola* on my road bike which are no where near as extreme as the Midge bars on my CX

*26.0mm only, I think the Junebug Bar is basically the same but 31.8mm

Lovely bike there Shawn :-bd

I've got 48cm Velo Orange Rando bars on my LHT. Very subtle shape but very comfy ... you will require a shim though.

Jenson USA has them for under £60 and less than a tenner shipping. You might get stung for customs charges, mind.

Thanks! It's super comfy, did a couple of centuries on it last year despite only having the 2 speed sturmey archer hub.

I've got a pair of Easton EA70 AX on order. 16deg flare. Not cheap, but slightly cheaper than the Salsa. Alternatively, what about a pair of bars from a GT Grade? There was some on eBay recently, some people don't seem to like the flare.
