i just go ski touring (telemark) in scotland (been 3 days allready this season) gear is expensive but you can oick up second hand kit.... get some skins, touring skis and touring boots and have at it ... obviously as you progress its worth getting avalanche kit and stuff if you are going steep , but...

last year i think i got my mum an alpkit stem cell and some other moderatly usefull bikepacking things but they did then go bikepacking round europe so that was easy :P

I have the top of the range vango ostro, mountain tent that i use for scotland winter car campin for skiing, and im not tgat happy with it, its ok and holds up well to the weather but snaped a pole second outin putting it up in the wind , all the poles are a bit bent after a years use and build qual...

they use to do camping , but can only find mention of campervan camping at the leisure center this year ... kendal camping and caravn club has a site just on shap road a bit out of town , probably take like 40 min to walk to the town centre though , looked up there number and its 01539 741363 could ...

if you climb or mountaineer , i would recommend Mic Fowlers 2 books , some of the best biographical wrighting i have come across , allways entertaining even on the most harrowing acounts of things , cant reccomed them enough ! ... but think you would have to be in to climbing to enjoy them.

Looks like you had a fantastic time! How did the £1400 break down roughly? I.e. Flights, other travel, accomodation/food ok so £800 each on flights with etihad that included the bikes as hand lugage and 1 extra bag between us £40 each for permits £350 each on food accomadation etc during the treck ...

i might give the bar harness a go as myn is fecked after nepal . and if it is as good as other chineese made bags with welded seems i have seen looking at samples in my job as a product designer, it will be stronger and better than any sewn kit made in the uk... the seat pack does look less great th...

Right so the bikes are in bags, the gps has a track on it the maps are packed and the bike packing bag are packed and in a big hold all.... all ready to go to the airport tomorrow ! accomadation in kathmandu sorted travel to the start of the annapurna sorted ! here we go haha.... should be some good...

I did the 2013 bb200 using a Garmin edge 200 on breadcrumb trail! Had to refer to the paper map I had with me many times...! i use to refere to the map lots just following a black and white bread crumb but now have ffaith in the totaly blind form of navigation and just roll with it .... it actually...

not many as mostly just shiver in a bivi bag but : mosedaile cottage (lakes ) - verry good bothy , sofas and good stove but boggy approach too boggy to ride but bring ur own fuel as not normally anything left ... have done several new years party's here as its local , but miles away from anywhere ! ...
