Re: 4-season sleeping bags

Cheers all. After reading loads of threads I've followed the advice of Bob and Stu from this one and ordered a Cumulus 250 (to layer with my 2-season bag) from http://www.outdoorline.sk . Delivery 2 - 5 days, wonder if I'll be sleeping warmer next weekend? Good call. They're very nicely made. I'll ...

Do you have any battery powered fairy lights? Very useful addition to anyones kit and adds a certain something to any wood or hillside ... cheap too, so pretty much guilt free. Somebody brought a set to the northern winter bivvy. They lent a certain abience to the ghost stories around the picnic ta...

Cumulus 250 quilt for me. I've been out in it 4 times in the last 4 weeks (twice was in Wales) and haven't gotten close to being cold once. I had a thin merino base layer, a silk liner, and a thin permaloft-style jacket on though. And a hat. And woolly socks. But I was toasty.

Zips are good for one handed opening and closing, and the Apidura top tube pack (the "extended" one) fits a packet of fig rolls perfectly. Just whip off the plastic wrapper and slot the box in. When you've finished the pack, just grab another "cartridge" from your seat pack, slot...

Re: Garmin advice

If I want to follow a particular path I use a route, created from a track… Interesting – how do you do that? Do you (on some computer software) add waypoints yourself, retracing the line on the track, or is there some software that'll just do it all for you? I use garmin basecamp. Thanks (I do too)...

Re: Garmin advice

I put many hours of research into the same question back in December. I ended up concluding the eTrex 30x was the one for me. I chose it over the ones with larger screens as a set of AA batteries last longer in the 30x. I chose it over the newer (and otherwise more impressive) eTrex Touch 35 because...

What are you hoping to get out of it ton? I think context is key with questions like this. I'll try and explain my thoughts on them and give you enough context for you to understand why I think what I think (which is probably more useful than what I think). I owned one for about 4 years, on a Thorn ...

Feck, I've been out riding and missed all this.

It looks like you're full Reg, but I might be able to keep up with your group Mark. Certainly for the first couple of days...

Here are my stats for yesterday. It's all gone west on the weight – back up to 84.5kg (what I weighed at new year). My waist/gut is down though, at 34.5" (an inch less than new year). I'm just back from 3 days riding in Wales. Doing 3800m total ascent isn't going to have put on a kilo of muscle...

I'm all in too. I wouldn't fancy just having the quilt in the bag, but I like to be able to turn over in the night without everything going pear shaped.

I suspect a silk liner would improve things considerably if you had the mat outside.

I have surly OD double that I no longer need ... have a Stooge now Sorry to take this slightly off topic, but does that mean the Stooge has room for 2x11 on a 3" tyre? I had 34/24 on my Swift but had to go to a single 30 when I put the plus tyres on. I think a 2.8" rear tyre would have be...

Re: What's the go-to quilt then..

I've got a 250, and it's very nicely made. I'm 6' and wouldn't mind if it was 2" longer, though it doesn't stop me using it and it still keeps me warm. Apparently you can ask them to lengthen it slightly when they make it, which I should have done. The way to use the elastic lines for attaching...
