Re: Aerodynamics of luggage

GCN did a video on commuter bags in an air tunnel.

Panniers, rucksack and a bikepacking saddle bag.

Guess which came out best?

Nice bike. Can I ask you what mudguards are those and how do you get on with them?

Commuter bike choice

At the moment I have a Specialized Langster fixed gear bike that I have used for over 10 years commuting a total of 16miles a day, mainly country roads. Use my old bikepacking/MTB for bad winter commute. I think it is time for a change to a more versatile bike for commuting and I’m thinking of an ad...

Re: Ceramic Bearings

I bought an Alpkit wheel with their stock rear hub. I’ve had hope, gold tech and other expensive hubs but I’m pleasantly surprised with the Alpkit hub. It’s so easy to take apart, no hassle. Runs smoothly and I’ve had to re-gease less than more expensive hubs. Don’t know what the weight is, but I wo...

Re: Frame bag advice please

I’ve just had a frame bag made by Alpkit for my Camino. I had the two horizontal zips with divider and 6cm width bag. I also asked then to fit two Velcro attachment points in the top divider to securely fit a carbon (bearbones) tentpole for my lunar solo tent. Some pictures here https://instagram.co...

What do you wear on your legs?

What I find difficult is deciding what to wear on my legs when bikepacking. Commuting and road cycling is simpler, I just where Lycra. But when bikepacking I want all day comfort, to stay warm and dry in the middle of no where and will look ok for a pub stop in the evening. At the moment I wear shim...

Re: Winter event kit recommendations

I have an exped down mat and also more recently an thermarest x therm. The thermarest is lighter and I also found it warmer. If I had a choice I would get the thermarest. I did not buy the thermarest at first because of people’s view of the thermarest making a crisp packet noise. To be honest I’ve n...

Re: tent users, what do you use?

Summer use - Lunar Solo Winter use - Lunar Solo :| If I had the money, I would like to buy a MLD duo mid in Cuben. You can then change the inners to winter or summer use. Nothing wrong with my Lunar Solo though. I’ve even manage to sew two extra guy lines on the rear of the tent. Must say I’m pretty...

Re: Waterproofs

For the weather we are having at the moment I use a Paramo Velez Adventure Light Smock. I find it very breathable, it’s like a waterproof wind proof. Find the material soft and comfortable and hood fits well under my helmet. I will wear it just as a wind proof when not raining so two tops are not ne...

Interesting that the international mu charger is the double port that they are selling.

The one I have is the international charger with one fast charge port.

Re: Bike Locks

I use two zip loks. Use one or join two together. I find then good for cafe stops or when camping. Find them ideal for bikepacking as most of the time your riding your bike with the occasional quick stop. Stops someone from just grabbing your bike. A balance between security and weight. http://www.h...

Re: USB Charging on tour

I sometimes carry a USB charger so I can top up when in a cafe or pub. I also like to stop off at a quite campsite. I find these campsites don't like you using their power so tend not to have power outlets. However I carry a MU fast international charger. You can change the head to a European head. ...

Re: USB Charging on tour

Whatever battery pack you choose to get, don't buy one large capacity battery pack. Make sure you buy two smaller capacity batteries.

I have now been in the middle of nowhere twice on a bikepacking weekend and have had a battery pack fail on me, thankfully I had the second battery that I could use.

Re: Interesting seat bag sway preventer and bottle holder

That's ^ been around for a long time but in the past was simply marketed as a way of holding cages. Obviously someone has seen a dual role for it to play and is now marketing it accordingly. I don't see it as a return to racks, simply something else to faff about with and rub a hole in your luggage...

Re: Interesting seat bag sway preventer and bottle holder

There will be someone along to decry this as the beginning of the return of the rack before long, and I they will have a point that this being made of aluminium, it will eventually fatigue and fail (steel would be better, titanium even betterer, I think, though someone might be able to correct me o...

Interesting seat bag sway preventer and bottle holder

Thought this might interest a few. Anyone that has an issue with seat bag sway, this item might help. What interest me about it though is that you can also use it to hold two water bottles. I might get one just for this. http://www.cyclingabout.com/saddlebag-sway-stabilizer-bikepacking-bags/ http://...

Re: Width of framebag?

As my current half bag is 6.5cm I think I might risk it and order my full frame bag at 6cm. One thing I did do was to finish the bottom of frame bag above the chainring. So if the bag does bulge a little, the chain rings won't rub against the bag. Hope I've got this right as it's an expensive decisi...

Width of framebag?

I’m about to order a custom frame bag and have the option of different widths. I currently have wildcat gear ocelot 1/2 frame bag which appears to be 6.5cm width. This is fine at the top of the frame and does not touch my knees when fully filled with gear. My concern is, if I order a frame bag with ...

Looking at getting some montane clothing. A company called ‘Loch Ness Ferry Clothing Company’ came up and have some quite big discounts of montane and other branded products.
