Thanks for that. I'm being an idiot and slipping back into the old mindset.
Note to self: the point of tubeless is there's no tube!

Dark art advice.....
I mean tubeless of course. I had a major bead seal killing burp while riding down to the Wayfarer monument the other weekend and had to fit a tube as there was no way I was getting a good seal. The quandary I have now is do I just leave it in for the Dirty Riever this weekend or take the tube out an...

Pearl Izumi. The quality of kit costing way more, small logo's, not shouty, long lasting, comfy.
An added bonus is that noone knows it's a brand owned by shhhhhhh-imano. Well, I didnt till recently.

Re: Lightweight shelters
After lots of procrastination I’ve ordered a Deschutes Tarp :-bd with my new über mat my sleep kit comes to 1169g plus pegs and a ground sheet. Hopefully under 1.5Kg all in. On the wayfarer trip I ditched the revelate tangle and took the normal kit plus food, I’m hoping I can do a multi day trip wi...

Thanks both. By headroom I really mean from a lying position. As in, amount of headroom I have to move around in when undertaking a succession of naps and moving from back, to side, to the other side etc.

Re: Merino, or other base layers?
Another vote for Alpkit Merino (and a huge thumbs up for that hipster brand merino, if you can get it in a sale). True, it gets sweaty if you're working hard, but it beats the crap out of synthetic tops. I've got one or two synthetic tops but I almost shudder when putting them on so natural fibres f...

Re: Lightweight shelters
So....can I just check - I'm sure I saw this info in this thread somewhere - Between the SMD Luna Solo and the Deschutes, the Deschutes is the longer of the two right? Being a person of restricted shortness (but some extra height) I need as much space (headroom) as I can get. I'm happy with a single...

Re: Bearbones towers by train
If your train is through Birminghan to a change at Shrewsbury (for instance) then you'll likely need a bike reservation to wherever teh change is. Supposedly the Wales trainline doesnt need booking so if your change is at B'ham then no, you shouldnt need a bike res. from there onwards. Caersws is ab...

Re: Cumulus quilts - old vs new
I've got one of the new version. You're right that it's very much a regular trapezoid. I'm 6'2" and a side sleeper, hate the constriction of a normal bag. I'm using it on a Synmat 7w, which is wider than the usual, so after asking Cumulus they added 10cm to the width and 13cm to the length - an...

Love that pic JamesO, particularly loving the headwear, white socks (how are they still white?) and especially that his front bag is a sack.

It does look like the sun didn't shine much while they were there, but even then they might have graded it for grimness. Dull colours are achingly hip these days it must be said, goes along with the 'folksiness' and desire for 'realness' that seems to be a thing these days. I think I share your pain...

I'd contact Ben at Kinetics in Glasgow as he really is the expert in "unusual" bikes and trikes. He has also modified a few to help some customers. http://www.kinetics-online.co.uk/ Ahem. I don't shout about this on here, but I'm Ben's competition when it comes to bikes for people with di...

Re: Lift back to London after WRT?
Cheers Pirhana, looks like there's a couple of options - trains allowing. All I can find is the Stanstead Express from BS to London, not sure it takes bikes unless they're packed for air travel. You could always drop me at Letchworth or Cambridge or similar.....
Plenty of time yet - see how it goes.

Lift back to London after WRT?
Booking trains to various events while it's quiet at work, and finding the only way back to London from the WRT on Monday by train takes nearly 6 hours and 5 changes. Before I commit to it and buy tickets, is anyone driving back nearish that could give me a lift? Any offers appreciated! *Edit* Been ...

Re: The colour of luggage?
I've oft thought about this, and why it is that our colour preferences in the UK are so muted dull and come down to dark blue, green, brown or black - and more black. The colours of cars in the UK which apart from silver and a dull red generally conform to the above. Continental Europe the car colou...

Re: Pooing and bowel function on long trips.
I would add that any advice from NHS.net will be aimed at your average couch-dweller and salad-dodger rather than the well oiled machine beings that we (ahem) clearly are. 1.5L for a fit individual contemplating the sorts of rides that are spoken of here is an insanely low amount. So - how to tell i...

Re: Pooing and bowel function on long trips.
Also, not a poop expert here, but I'm fairly sure that 3L (some say 2L but info is easy to find) is a recommended intake of water for normal daily use of the adult human body. That's before you start exercising riding a bike and sweating heaps, and on a not particularly hot day. As I say, I dont thi...

Re: Pooing and bowel function on long trips.
It has been said that the human body is a walking pond, as we're supposed to made of mostly water. I say 'supposed' to be. When we let that pond dry out then things can start going wrong and at a guess I'd suggest you're probably running a bit dehydrated. If you're not running at 3L a day, then see ...

Re: Watery eyes, your solutions.
I'm having this problem, not made any better by my glasses not sticking to my face very well so on any bumpy downhill they'll be jumping around like mad while my eyes water. Makes for quite trippy riding at times, but does increase your confidence after a while that if you went almost completely bli...
