Autan doesn't seem to be as effective for as long, so I've found you need more of it  So far I've only found that if I'm sweating & if I'm sweating I'm probably shifting and more likely to inhale a cloud of them than be bitten by one  Ticks however seem to love me no matter what I sla...

Re: Who wants to bivvy in Ardnamurchan... for a year
It would be worth working out the exact location and then gatecrashing it! That's easy, they need to apply for special exemption to completely block access to a large area for that long... the sea kayakers & some of the bothy denizens have been doing their dingers about it for the last month. h...

stupid question but can we get bbc scotland on iplayer? I cant find it For future reference... you need to click change location which is near the bottom left on the iplayer's homescreen. IIRC the schedule still shows as if you're in That London, but if you watch live you'll get whatever's on up he...

We watched that last night. Wasn't fussed with it as a whole, but the photography was excellent throughout.Single Speed George wrote:there i some ok documentery on netflix that follows a few sports people doing interesting things, a base jumper, a free diver and a guy doing the RAAM

So long as the map had proper grid references on them... Yes... assuming you mean the OS grid & not lat/long anyway. The styling & 1:40 scale are the biggest differences. They're not as detailed or as nice to look at as OS maps, but I reckon they're easier to read and... the tracks marked o...

PSA: Minch Moor bothy is deid
Apologies if somebody has already mentioned this, but better that it's posted a couple of times than a desperate soul thinking their nav skills are off when they'd be better carrying on off the hill or sheltering elsewhere. Please note that the former MBA bothy at Minch Moor, on the Southern Upland ...

please don't laugh as i am easily upset, but if someone were to enter this event to simply get round and enjoy it as a tour, would that be possible? IIRC there was a guy this year that entered it, stayed on route for a bit and then buggered off & explored pretty much everywhere else in Scotland...

Re: Bothies on the BBC
I can't see the coverage making a huge difference mess wise. Even the easy to reach bothies are too much effort for most. Far easier to camp next to your motor along the likes of Loch Doon & Glen Etive, hence everyone seems to take new tents & as much pish as they can fit in it before leavin...

Might be a bit late now but if you want a bit more off-road/gravel action then the The West Loch Awe Timber Haul Route runs parallel to NCN 78 If the weather is good I'd be tempted to cut off the logging road at Loch Avich & head over the String of Lorne *. I did it as an out & back a few y...

I think it's really just because that's the bike people had Dan. That's the kind of madness I can get behind :-bd Reminds me of Nick Crane & his skinny tyred tourer cutting about the Lakeland passes or in this case riding around in an estuary because that's where the trail on the map goes

Most folk in the hills are honest & theft is rare, but it isn't unheard of. Taking off a wheel and/or using a light lock should deter most opportunists though.benp1 wrote:Does anyone ever worry that their bike might get ridden off by a random from a bothy?
