1. Hyperlite M. 340g or whatever it is. 2. Winterlite M. 400g or whatever it is - in fact it is, cos just weighed it. Mega warm. 3. Balloon bed, as described with much hilarity elsewhere in this 'hood. 100g or whatever. 4. Straw bed. 0g or whatever depending on which barn you're forced into by that ...

Re: Time to put the summer bag away.

Ta Stu, I get the thermos point, but hot tea in a thermos is pretty much constant temp throughout its volume, whereas my lithesome bod would only be chilly for the top few skin layers surely (my chilliness, like my beauty, would only be skin deep ;-) )? 95% of it (core) would still be at 98.6 or I'd...

Re: Time to put the summer bag away.

I knew I shouldn't have set off down this route. I'm now starting to contemplate binning cooking gear completely and just have cold things - save weight, save faff, save mess (certainly with the way I "cook" ;-) ). Probably the main reason I "cook" stuff is purely morale-boosting...

Re: Time to put the summer bag away.

Good point TNW, I should've come up with that too ;-). Although, I do tend to sleep with my window wide open at home most of the year so I get a fair swing in temperatures. I guess I'm trying to work out if there's any more ways of honing my overnight-clothing-prediction mechanism, which doesn't see...

Re: Time to put the summer bag away.

Yes there is a little nip in the air as they say. In fact, ta Stu, it’s helped crystalise something that was already on my mind. Obviously I haven’t got anything better to think about. I still haven’t thought it through properly (as usual), but I’ll punt it out and take the heckles and see what come...

Re: The post man's been ...

Well that Berghaus smock's just turned up. The missus took it off the postie so I had to do some quick thinking and said it was a cheapo bit of raingear for taking everywhere for "just in case" (which it is). She went with it luckily because it does indeed look like a bit of tissue paper c...

Oooh, a thread about the "dark side" :-). Never mind wobbling, half(*) of the roadies I see would benefit from a Bikeability course to teach them how to interact and communicate properly with other road users. <Can't find smiley for 'awaits flaming' > (*) generalising? what me?

Re: Off topic: A BearBones lifestyle and minimalism.

"relies on others kindness to keep her going" - difficult area that for me: so long as it's not an expected or asked-for kindness then maybe it's OK. The world needs a bit more kindness gawd knows. So you shouldn't really set off aiming to fail and hoping someone kindly bails you out (see ...

Re: Off topic: A BearBones lifestyle and minimalism.

My compliments HW on having no debt at 20, and Whitestone I agree with your “want it? earn for it then” philosophy. It takes great willpower to stick to your guns especially now our economic “policy” is entirely geared round flogging debt to everyone – bizarrely debt is now a saleable commodity itse...

Sounds like you're just starting to enjoy the early stages of a nice healthy mid-life crisis HW! Don't fight it, go with the flow, embrace it, make a few small changes, make a few big ones, see what happens. I was very taken with Stu's quote the other day about maybe people'd be better off losing th...

Nice thread, nuffin wrong with a bit of idle philosophy on a Tuesday afternoon. Can see it turning into one of those mega-threads though. There can't be any doubt there's far too much waste taking place in every facet of life - power, food, even people (talents, futures etc) if you want to get really...

Yeah missed your company Rich - "get well soon" chap. I'm getting slightly concerned that my outings are now coinciding with full moons. When I got dressed this morning I'm sure I'm looking a lot hairier and my teeth are a bit longer as well.

Having been recently deprived of our Snowdon caper (showboating I know, but the views are worth it) cos Pickers had a bit of an incident, I needed an emergency bivi replacement. Luckily had a bit of business in the Peaks and an overnight stay. Never understood the concept of “hotels”. “What, you mea...
