Re: What bikepacking gear have you just ordered/bought?

I have just bought a rather lovely Salsa Fargo from Ton :-bd
Either 29er+ or 5" for offroad bikepacking and the Fargo for mixed surface / longer trips that doesn't require a clown bike.

Re: anyone got a fatbike?

That is a shame your ride was a bit "meh", but even at 20 stone, these tyre pressures are going to give nothing but misery. I am 16st, and have had a fat bikes for nearly 5 years now. For the larger gent, 5" tyres are what you should be looking at as the extra volume means they can st...

Salsa Fargo (Large) *Immaculate*

2011 Large Salsa Fargo complete bike. The bike was too large for it's original owner, so it ended up in storage for a number of years, until I bought it a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I am not getting on with the woodchippers, so I have decided to sell the bike on to someone who can fully appreciate...

Tall folk: Mini Peak or Hex Peak?

After being pointed in the right direction here, I'm sold on the idea of a mini or hex peak for my next shelter, but which is best suited for someone 6.2"?

Re: Fat bike curious. What would you recommend

A lot depends on what you actually plan to do with the bike.
Whatever frame you choose, make sure you can fit 29er+, because you will soon realise that there are better options than full fat for most riding conditions.

Re: Surly 29er+ Knards, Brooks B17, Humpert loop bars

Bars and knards are pending payment, but 2nd dibs noted.
The centre hairs are off the tyres now, but the side ones are still on. Next to no wear on the tread as they have only had light use on coastal trails.

Surly moonlander running 26x4.8" and 29x3" wheelsets. Works for me - North Scotland, beach and sandy trails on my doorstep, head inland to the boggy trails around speyside, then onwards to the Cairngorms.

Manky Scottish winter weather tent advice

Tall person requires descent tent that will survive the constant drizzle and mirk of Scottish winters, and the 18hrs of darkness that goes with it. I have been using a Vango banshee for a few years, which itself is a good tent, but fancy a change for something slightly roomier and has a porch large ...
