Re: Convert 2 x 10 to 1 x10?
On Shimano rear mechs, if you take out the b screw, there is some times a plastic spacer underneath that can be removed so that you can increase the effective length of the b screw.

Re: Sleep system for the side sleepers
I’m a side sleeper and have the enlightened revelation, it’s great - wide enough that I don’t get a draughty back (which I did with the cumulus comforter I used before it).

Re: Wildlife
Rewilding sounds good in principle but the sticking point is just to when do we wind the clock back? Go back 25,000 years and you'd have to get McAlpines in with a fleet of bulldozers stripping all vegetation and soil away but then they might have a little problem replicating the couple of kilometr...

Re: Wildlife
Hundreds of roe deer round my way this year (ok slight exaggeration but I've seen way more than years past recently) I was speaking to someone involved in land management who reckons it's down to an increasing reluctance by farmers to allow people to shoot on their land due to the liability hassles...

Re: WTD : Stem cell or similar
just measured mine:
165mm deep including the soft close
90mm wide
Mine are also a few years old and are branded as B'twin, the ones linked are 'riverside'. Apart from the label, they look the same.

Re: Wildlife
Bit of a 'life complete' moment for me today. Not sure if my other 3 walking/hiking partners - 8; 12 and 46 yr old - felt the same. I did explain that these experiences don't come along too often in the hills. Backdrop of Holme Moss and this gorgeous (tawny?) owl made an appearance. I remembered so...

Re: Raised Reversed Stem
Low bbs are great for riding manufactured trails which are usually pretty wide. However, I think they are a serious compromise for the natural (rutted) places I ride in where I frequently need to pedal to keep momentum.

Re: Dropper posts & Seat bags
I've used the 'enduro collar' that comes with reverbs as a cheap alternative to the wolf tooth vallais. I just fit it a couple of inches down on the stanchion and the put electrical tape on the bit of post that's still showing. You won't want to drop the post the hole way anyway as the seat bag will...

Re: What mudguard for my Scandal...?
Choices, choices... Crud XL front and rear, from Merlin - £36.50 RRP Proguard front and rear, from Sprockets - £52.33 Mudhugger front and rear, from Mudhugger - £62.49 🤔 I don't think you have the clearance to run a front proguard or mudhugger as they are fairly rigid and won't conform to the shape...

There's some front mudguards that mount only to the fork lowers rather than the bridge like the Topeka defender: https://www.cycleworld.co.uk/components/finishing-kit/topeak-defender-m1xc11-front__1333 The crud XL might also work https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/crud-front-fender-xl/rp-pro...

Re: Roadie physics article
Yeah I get that they are taking about road riding, you still need to accelerate frequently on a road bike though. Every pedal stroke provides an acceleration to the wheels which is instantly followed by a deceleration from the combined effects of tyre resistance, aero resistance and gravity (when go...

“Weight is not as significant as most riders probably believe. Even with no aerodynamic improvement, a 1 kg difference has a relatively small impact on road speed.” Hmm I think there is a fairly big flaw in the calculations used in this article as they completely fail to take into account the effect...

Planet X have the Zastrugi 2 person tent reduced to £50 at the moment. Not the lightest at 2kg but in terms of £ per gram its pretty good. No idea on the quality but seems to be a Big Agnes Fly creek clone: https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/Z2PTENT/zastrugi-2-person-tent?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_mediu...
