Re: I'm stuck. Bike Advice Needed (again!)

I'd steer clear of the Fox CTD Evolution, I have one on my Trance and it's quite disappointing after three sets of Rockshox Revelations on other bikes. If it goes bang I shall replace with a Revelation or Pike. 27.5 or 29er? Probably doesn't matter much, but my Trance (27.5) is more nimble than my F...

Re: Waterproof gilet?

I've got a Endura Convert, best piece of clothing I own, very waterproof, useful pockets, looks good, bit bulkier than the lightest jackets but means it feels like it gives more protection from the wind. I will buy another if it ever dies, but must be 7 years old and still looks good.

I reckon bivvying on Corris rugby pitch / in the dugout is a legitimate bus shelter alternative.

Re: Which bike are you using for the WRT?

Any bike that makes you consider avoiding great looking trails because they will be too technical/steep etc for the bike, when you have a bike capable of them seems a bit mental to me. That's coming from someone who on occasion has struggled (failed) to keep up on more technical descents (Dyfi Fores...

Re: WRT Entries now open.

Happy to send you a copy of our 140 mile all points reached international route from last year, it was a great ride too, but because I'm fairly sure Stu won't be sending us in the same direction it won't be much use this year :) flything@gmail.com is my junk mail forum account, so drop me a mail the...

WTD: 29 Suspension Fork 80-100mm

I'm after a suspension fork for my Fargo, ideally 80mm Reba, but 100mm would be ok with a bit of sag I think. Cosmetically I'm not too bothered as long as stantions, seals and internals are all good.

Re: Which part of the world do you live, and do you like it?

North Shropshire, Shropshire Gold Ale. Buzzards, Kestrals and Sparrow Hawks in the garden. Work from home with view over fields, so have forgotten what traffic or congestion is like, although have to be in London occasionally (like right now), which is actually only 2hrs 40mins by train from little ...

FS Kids Ridgeback Mountain Bike

Ridgeback MX24 Lovely bike for kids aged 8-10. Front suspension nice and smooth. A few cosmetic marks (worst is in picture below) but otherwise works as it should do. https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7302/13944444299_48c932c41e.jpg P1080372 by nickgilling , on Flickr https://farm3.staticflickr.com/291...

Re: Klymit X-lite users ...

I bought an x-wave via the classifieds and used it on the WRT. Have to say I was very impressed, I'm generally a front sleeper or side sleeper, rarely back, and was comfortable on the wooden raised deck in Clun castle. Was even better on the grassy lawn of the pub the following night (and I'd only h...

Re: Deore brakes?

At £54 a bike for Avid BB7s, why would you use anything else? I've got BB7s on my Fargo, they are ok, but they are not as good as any of the hydro brakes I've had, kevlar pads help, but really they are still less powerful and therefore more tiring to use on really long rides, would really like to r...

Re: Deore brakes?

Some Deore like things came on my Giant Trance, I think they are one below actual Deore in the Shimano brake hierarchy They have been great, nice feel, plenty of stopping power, simple reach adjustment. I have a set of XT on my 456, and had thought about swapping them over, but I don't think I'll bo...

Re: WRT Distances, Climbing & Bivi Spots

You could use http://www.bikehike.co.uk to measure your route. Probably more accurate than string and contour counting, much quicker at least! We managed 240km and 5500m of climbing. Saturday consisted of a pint 8 miles in at Trefegfwys, a nice spin along the ridgeway then a fish and chip supper in ...
