It's now a cheery Friday...as I've just clocked off at 23:20. Time for a dram...some Jura kindly sent by a customer for fixing their networks. Gotta love free whisky eh? : )

The end of my first week at a new job.

A slight change of direction but still working within the cycling industry.

It's been a good week!

Fess up which frame?

It’s been a pretty miserable Friday up until 7 o’clock when our big cat came home after being AWOL for three days. The day he went missing, I came down in the morning and found the utility room that the cats are shut into at night literally covered in cat poo. It was spread about the floor, on a pile of washing, in the sink, on the worktop and on the window cill that he sleeps on. He was still dripping poo, his back was arched and he was making agonised miaowing noises. There was dribble from his mouth where he’d been trying to vomit.

He was very obviously in pain, but it was too early in the morning to ring the vet, so I put him outside and set to cleaning up the mess. Now he never stays out for long so I was surprised to find him gone. We searched around everywhere we could think of that a sick cat might hide, with no luck. After the first very cold night we thought that he’d probably died somewhere, especially since he’s 14 years old, and so sick, that we were resigned to having just one cat.

But beggar me, at just after 7 o’clock, a scratch at the door and a “let me in” miaow announced his return. His tail and legs are still covered in dried-on poo and he stinks.

But Hey! It’s a very cheery Friday. :-bd

Thanks. So do I. I'll take him to the vets tomorrow and get him checked out.

I think Mrs Perrin would recognise a similar scenario to this from every time that Reg returns from a BaM outing.

Glad your cat came back! Sounds a bit like it might have been poisoned or ate something very bad..

On the subject of cats, I've got a new one after a few years without: a 6 month old ragdoll called Bluey that needed rehoming

He’s pretty stretched out and floofy in that pic. He’s going to be pretty big but nowhere near Maine Coon sized

Damn straight. Had to revert to Outlook Classic to set the Out of Office but 'tis done. There are mince pies in the house and while I have a number of little jobs to be getting on with, nothing is Important or Urgent. Happy holidays.

The shortest day is now behind us, so that's got to be cheery.

Got the wine (bargain £3.50 Bordeaux from Aldi) mulling and frozen homemade mince pies warming for my partner who's last day at work is today. Mine was yesterday, and you've reminded me I haven't set my out-of-office. Never mind, no-one emails me anyway.

Life goal: continue to be the sort of person no-one contacts urgently during work holidays

Shortest day, done.
Teaching for the term, done.
Exams set up for January, done.

Off into Sheffield, along with the rest of the city I suspect, for an end of year drink with other worn out teachers

Did a solstice sea swim today. That’s 51 of 52 weeks done. Xmas day finishes a weekly swim in the sea off for me

Sounds a bit brassy does that Dave but well done - hopefully your penis will return sometime mid-Match.

Nowt of a festive nature here - no cards, presents, food, decorations or tree - yeah, like we're short of trees. Dee's in bed with a virus of some sort and I'm just polishing off some freshly laid paintwork on a petrol tank, so cheery enough I suppose.

Well done Dave, and get well soon Dee.

Cheery here, as one of the bairns has been awarded "Student of the term" by the head of year. This seems to be down to being a nice person, friendly and.polite, rather than academic prowess, though he's doing just fine on that front too. Very proud of him, as he's gone to a new school where he only knew one other kid at the start of term.

Installed Home Assistant on a RPi4 and got some smart bulbs I bought in IKEA the other weekend turning on and off via my phone. I can see this home automation malarky could get quite spendy...

Edit: Have also started making a panettone.
