It’s cheery Friday for me as it is the first one after our Thursday night gig rowing sessions where my body feels almost normal. Now looking forward to racing

Yay it's Cheery Friday, I had the day off work and got out to play on my bike before everything goes bank holiday bonkers

Reckon all those yuppies coming over from London in their Range Rover Sports for the long weekend are highly likely to be 'bonk holiday' bankers  .

Now this is a terrible confession for someone amused (usually childishly I unashamedly admit) by language but I'm unsure where the apostrophe belongs, if at all, in that previous post. I blame the Northern Monk Brewery for my lack of clear thinking. <hangs head in shame> Paging that Borderer. Hmm I've tried rearranging the words but no joy. Maybe it's not required at all so I'll just have to save it away for another time. Mustn't waste them.

Can't see that it needs an apostrophe anywhere, but maybe I'm missing something. I won't claim to be an authority... though I consider this place, and this thread in particular, an extension of the pub, and I have a rule for pub discussions, and that's that whoever claims their view with the most conviction is right, an no you bloody well can't look it up on your phone (maybe that's two rules).

Been a weird Friday here. No reason in particular, just haven't been able to focus on anything really. Still there's always cheer to be found....

Did a few odd jobs at the anti-food-waste cafe this morning, and as a by-product, was asked to save some 21-day matured rump steaks from their landfill destination. Also some pastries. And a few other tasty bits. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.

Also picked up some truly daft beers I'd ordered from my still-closed regular pub and had a good natter with the landlord, who's a lovely guy. Said beer will surely feature on the drinkin' thread when I pluck up the courage and find a suitable occasion to open it.

I was having a cheery Friday but right this moment I've just dropped a Malteser and it's gone down behind the cupboard!! This is a catastrophe... hang on, I'm going to get it out if it takes me all the rest of Cheery Friday.

It's OK I've found it. Luckily it got stuck on a ledge just under the top somehow. Annnnnnnnddddd.... relax. That was close. Yum, yum.

It's the "their Range Rover Sports" part. Just doesn't look right. It's "Sports" which looks rather like a plural noun even though it isn't of course, it's an adjective. The confusion is there are presumably several bonking bankers and each have one Range Rover Sport, not they each have several Range Rover Sports, or even more confusingly that some of them have one and others have several. Even if they did have several - and they are rich so I suppose they conceivably might - they couldn't drive more than one at a time from London to Verena's neck of the woods. Obviously, the proverbial 'grocer's apostrophe' would end up incorrectly in "Sport's" but that's by the by.

Anyway, I'll stop there because it's deflecting from the highly amusing (in the time allowed) wordplay about bonk holiday bankers, ho ho.

It's the "their Range Rover Sports" part.
Ah. Perhaps it could even be "Range Rovers Sport"? Still no apostrophe.

If the model is called "Sport" or "Sports" then surely no apostrophe required.

Anyway, guess which numpty picked up the alcohol free beers from the fridge in the Co-op?

Ah. Thanks Bob. Apparently is it in fact "Sport" so the whole discussion is academic. Never mind, it gave me a chance to quaff a St Peter's (not St Peters) Plum Porter while I was wittering.

That's the reason you're the only one making the remotest bit of sense on the thread Bob.

So; logically...fewer, are greater... :ugeek: .

I'm belatedly cheery because for no good reason (*) I googled 'uk bikepacking' and we're nowhere in sight thank goodness. In fact this is what came up, in this order

cyclinguk.org - a guide to bikepacking
bikepacking.com - the UK archives
bikepacking.com - the Great North Trail
advntr.cc - routes for your next bikepacking trip
outdoorsmagic.com - best bikepacking routes
cyclinguk.org - bikepacking
cyclinguk.org - bikepacking recipes (!)
220triathlon.com - best bikepacking routes
redbull.com - 9 locations you need (sic) to visit

Surely we're in the top ten? Nope...

alpkit.com - bikepacking bags

Top eleven then? Of course not, it's that well-known focal point for all things bikepacking... Countryfile!!

countryfile.com - beginners guide to bikepacking

then we have...

turve.com (who?)
pannier.cc - bikepacking tours

...aaaannnddd finally in at number 14...
bearbonesbikepacking!

(*) no, I lie, there was a good reason. Mrs Perrin was nagging me to do the washing up so I had to appear 'busy' already.

Looking at the list again they mostly cater for people wanting to be given routes. Which, as has been said many a time, is the antithesis of adventure....

Maybe if you google 'uk adventure' you get given loads of bikepacking routes?

I do love how Google searches work

If you Google 'wightlink' the top result is Red Funnel :???: Who are the other ferry company on the Island, their IT team is obviously better than Wightlink's.
