Church or Chapel references.

The grid references / details for Church or Chapel are now cruising through outerspace and should be dropping into inboxes across the land shortly.

If you've entered, they should be with you in the next couple of hours. If they haven't arrived by this afternoon, try the following.

1/ Strip your computer down and locate the inbox. Lift the lid and have a good old look inside, get a torch and peer in the dark corners and maybe tip it up and give it a shake as emails sometimes get stuck in there.

2/ Still nothing? Do the same for all your inboxes - even those for accounts you hardly ever use.

3/ Nope? Are you sure you entered yourself? Could you have used someone elses paypal account and the email has gone to them or did someone enter on your behalf? Have a think.

4/ If all the above has failed, then send me an email stuart@bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk and I'll send them again.

There will be an extra sweepstake being run this year independent of the Grids

How many times will Stu/Dee set off the smoke alarm in the community centre?

I'll kick off with .... 2 times.

Well spotted Ian, I thought it had a festive feel about it.

FFS, sorry please substitute SO 137774 for SO 137744 ... slip of the brain.

The chapel at SH 884 003 is unmarked on the OS map...correct, or no?

Don't worry, I'm armed with an assortment of rubber gloves and a full working knowledge of the location of every smoke alarm.

It is on mine

But then again I suppose my maps are from a slower and more pious century :-bd

My rebellious nature says "Chapels", but I'll have ticked several on the Friday, so looks like Churches.

By some fortuitous happenstance (ta Stu) there's a route that goes past at least two of my favourite watering holes so that's me done for as far as mileage is concerned - of course church/pub were always built in pairs so the afflicted could "repent or recover in one or the other" (*). Well it can't be helped, I'll just have to sit there in the corner looking out of the window enviously as the pros hammer past for a wild and windy night in the remote upland wastes...

(*) gosh, bit of poetry there, and I'm not even Welsh

In view of the now mainstream nature of Bikepacking (sic), maybe it's time for a name change to Non-Conformist racing?

Nope, sorry not getting this one. That grid reference correlates with the boundary of a small wood between Llan and Bont Dolgadfan. Google Street View

Edit: unless you mean the former chapel at 885002? (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.58839 ... 312!8i6656)

My fault, I figured anyone getting that close to it on the ground would spot it, try 884002 or maybe 885002. Like you say, it's not marked on any map other than Reg's, so I had to incorporate a little guesswork and estimation into the location.

I guess it depends which direction you're coming from...
But to clarify, my second google street view link (and at SH 885002) is the correct one?

Yes, that's the place. Sorry I didn't check the link when you first posted it as you said 'former' but it's still in regular use so I assumed it had no bearing.

Oh, b***er! I've an old OL23 and it's different to the current one - the map heading up towards Bala is landscape rather than portrait so doesn't have the last two church locations

"What's that?" I hear you say, "Any excuse to buy more maps" :-bd

Same here whitestone. Seems like a reasonable excuse though!

There'll be some surprised looks on the faces of parishioners during the Sunday as bike hobos rock up outside their places of worship trying to not look like lost souls (",)

The selfiie at the alter will be difficult if the Sunday service is in full swing.

"selfie at the altar" Don't worry they'll probably be more concerned about me filling my water bottle from the font.

The (ex)chapel at D*n may well be first port of call for the chapel brethren so to save hoards of people getting lost in that teeming metropolis here's a sliver of 20thC map (as mentioned above) that you can print, laminate, and take along with you. If the arduous trip up from the start point is all too much for you, it's only £79/night to stay there! Personally I've got it down as 887 003 but since I'll be up the road at the church anyway let's not quibble eh...

Just off to watch "Life Of Brian" now to get me in the mood...
