Affordable bike lights

Post by smartay »

Hi all
Ido very little night riding due to the lack of descent lights but put off by the price of the better known brands.
Singletrack carried out a review of two cheaper lights, the Itu Wiz xp3 and the Starry light Rx02, and gave them both a good review,
Anyone else using these

Always a balance between Cost, Quality, Performance. Pick two, and you're a mug if you end up with only one of those things.

There's a thread on here (fairly recent) with reviews of different lights.

A good balance between quality, UK supplier, ok prices and great customer service can be found here. Just ask for Smudge

You can get an astonishingly good light for under £50 these days. If you're lucky, you can get a good one for under £20. The Nitefighter BT40S http://www.gearbest.com/bicycling-gear/pp_180805.html gives out tons of light in a really good beam pattern.

Search on STW for bike light threads. You'll find lots of useful info among the nonsense.

I have a Nitefighter BT40s light unit with a separate battery box with quality 18650s, I reckon it cost about £60-£70 all in. I had the battery box and batteries already from a different unit. Now easy to buy the latest and greatest light unit as they come out

Teamed up with a Diablo on the helmet, which is more than twice the price...!

I'd say go for something from Torchy the Battery Boy at the lower end of the scale, or Smudge from MTB Batteries if you want the next price bracket up. Both have good customer service and are based in the UK (though their products are not from the UK)
