2017 Winter Event - Entries Open.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

That's right, entries for the 2017 Winter Event, entitled 'Church or Chapel?' are now open. It takes place over the weekend of Jan 14th / 15th and as usual will feature tea, cake, riding bikes, sleeping out and goodies.

Grid references will drop into inboxes on Christmas eve, so you'll have a good excuse to ignore the inlaws.

You don't have to John - they're just lovely old buildings at grid references.

I'm thinking about this and wonder what 'destination' means. Is it a place where everyone meets up at night or something else?

Just a grid with a church or chapel. No real turning point destination if that makes sense? I do like a grave yard kip though. Peaceful usually.
Stu best to answer though after saying all that!

My Nan was from Welsh Methodist stock, so I felt a calling to enter this one (although my Gran was a Scottish Catholic, so I could get well lost and end up somewhere in the Lake District!).

It mentions destination on the website.
Shouldnt it be Llan or Capel?
Yes but then people would be even more bewildered.

No one specific destination Meraid, it's entirely up to you where and how far you ride and where you spend the night ... but obviously a night 'outside' is encouraged

From the post, "Just like the WRT, the winter event doesn't have a fixed route but unlike the WRT it does have a fixed destination(s) which gives each event its unique name … how you reach it is down to you. We'll give you a few grid references to point you in the right direction."

This is what I mean by being unsure of 'destination'.

Yes Meraid, some years such as Mach' 'n Back there would be a destination besides the GR but this year, there's no actual destination.

Thanks Stuart, I understand now. Shivering at the thought, but I suppose the promise of tea and cake is the motivation I need to hit the enter button.

The lemon cake alone, makes it all worthwhile. It tends to be a very sociable gathering too, for those who like things that way.
