Friends are having a weekend away riding in Swaledale, so i'm thinking of joining them on the Saturday, any maybe ride home on the Sunday.

As the crow flies its about 65k, so thinking with a few wiggles it'll be ~100k door to door.

Once past Keighley/Bingley i'm fine, but anyone with any ideas for the stuff higher up, which will be ridable in late October?

The stuff on the yd300to front on was good and from memory had quite a bit of hard pack on it. Guessing it would be fine.

You could follow that to buckden and there's options from there. Kind of goes in the right direction too...

A bit awkward getting from Swaledale to Wensleydale so which end of the valley are you? I'll assume Reeth/Dales Bike Centre so.

Up the road on to Grinton Moor and take this BW http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=403827 ... &A=Y&Z=120, drop in to Apedale and at the crossroads of tracks go straight on and over to Castle Bolton. Either BW or road to Carperby then road to Aysgarth and Thoralby. BW up to Stake Allotments http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=399789 ... &A=Y&Z=120, keep Left and Left to follow the track over Stake Moss and down to the top of Kidstones http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=394306 ... &A=Y&Z=120. About half a mile down the road (just before a sharp LH bend) take the BW on the L down to Buckden. Road now down to Conistone, cut over to Kilnsey and start up Mastiles Lane but then cut left to head over Boss Moor http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=396423 ... &A=Y&Z=120 - basically keep heading south on the BWs to Hetton. Road to Gargrave. Probably best on road from there to Keighley unless you wanted to get on to the PBW.

It'll be from the YHA in Grinton, so that side of the valley. Done the climb over, but its a fair few years ago.

Not really wanting to hit the PBW. The section above Hebden isnt really inspiring and will be a bog fest this time of year, plus its a bit more westwards than i'd like.

Ridden the majority of that over the years. Just wondering if they may be a way to cut over Buckden Pike > Kettlewell > Dalesway > Grassington > Barden Moor > Embsay ?

A lot of those bridleways are more suited to going East-West than North-South. Another option might be to get to West Burton then over to Coverdale and over again to Nidderdale and work down further east to get to Ilkley then over the moor to Keighley/Bingley area.

If you can get to Barden, then from there the obvious choice is Storiths, Langbar, drop into Ilkley, over Keighley Gate to back of Dick Hudsons and then you know your way from there. :-bd
