Alpkit Rumpus free-hub
I've got a bit of lateral play (about 2 - 3mm) in my free-hub. Is this due to the bearings going? If so what bearings (and tools) do I need to service them? If not, what's the likely cause? I know from the "Tell me about B+" thread that a couple of folk have had to replace the bearings.

Sounds like bearings Bob. No special tools required although you will need internal circlip pliers, an old screwdriver, a socket and a hammer.
Bearing number is 6902 2RS ... however, just before you pull it all apart, just check the axle end caps are nipped up.

Cheers Stu, checked the end caps and they had worked loose.
For £2.99 a pop it's worth having a set of the bearings lying around.

Any clues for getting into these before I get out the big hammer? Got a couple of mm of play but the bearings feel ok.
Non drive side end cap pulls off easily but drive side with the flats on doesn't. Free hub seal and circlip seal are out. Do I just need to hit it from the non-drive side?
