Welsh Coast 2 Coast

Post by Laurensdad »

Confused by the myriad of options, but is there a definitive route of 180-200 ish miles, 4/5 steady days.
Cheers

I would go for 'Ians Route' ... he may send you a copy if you ask nicely. Although finishing at Worms Head, it may not go as far south as you need / want.
May the bridges you burn light your way

There's a few:
The Carnaerfan to swansea - Matt Page and Dave Buchanan did this and there's a website of Dave Buchanans called "a Hobbits Tale". 200 miles

The Sarn Helen - you might struggle to find a GPx of this, but I think there could be a fair bit of pushing.

Ian B's 2013 route from Great Ormes head to Worms Head. 200 miles and probably the most rideable and scenic.

Ian B's 2015 route also from Great Ormes head to Worms Head. 250 miles and quite tough.

I would go for Ian's 2013 route - it is a cracking ride!

I've got a WC2C 4/5d ride that I'm planning to do in May, linking up some places I've previously ridden in Wales and its from Bangor to Cardiff so easy for trains. I've not ridden it yet so no guarantee's, but I'm hoping it works for Gravel bikes with Nano40's. I'll B+B this one but I'm specifically looking out for bivi places for a return trip later in the year. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/12784411

Just did my route last weekend ( https://ridewithgps.com/trips/8872182), fantastic route. Quite tough days, but all cleared on CX bike minus a couple of pushes. Shortened the route on a couple of days (a bit knackered), only really tough terrain was south of Mach (down to Nant - y - Moch). Had to divert on Senny bridge firing range, the red flags were out. Some pic's here:-

If it helps anyone, I was pleasantly surprised to find that even when the Red flags are flying on the Sennybridge Firing range, the Eppynt Way that runs just inside the perimeter fence is still usually OPEN. This is the wording written on the signs by the gate and was good news for me after coming up from Llanwrtyd Wells via Cefngorwydd and Cynala. There is fir track just inside and later some wonderful smooth tarmac (just a few feet from the Eppynt Way gravel track !)
