strong 29'' wheelset idea's

Post by ton »

looking to for a new set of 29'' wheels for myself, so they need to be pretty robust. going on a 130mm hardtail.
last time i got wheels built for myself, i chose hope pro2 disc hubs, with Kris Holm 29'' unicycle rims, which i can no longer find. these were 45mm wide.
is there anything available off the peg? or other idea's greatly welcomed.

Wide and expensive gets you velocity duallys but £90 to £100 each is a bit sore. They are bomb proof however.

Not sure if you can still get Salsas 35mm wide rim as these are tough, not as dear as above and a chunk lighter

I also wanted some wide rims bombproof 29er rims and went with Exal XL25s, they are pretty wide but also quite heavy at 770g, lighter than the Kris Holm rims though.

Also you can get two of them for less than £20 on ebay.

Have a look at Just Riding Along selection of rims.
WTB do i45 Scraper and i35.
Zazen - nothing happens next this is it.

I usually destroy back wheels and have been riding some Stans 'Flow EX' rims (Hope hubs) for the last couple of years in the Alps (often fully loaded) with no troubles (and I'm 100kg and don't take things easy).

Should be good Tony - I built some Mavics (?) 719s onto Hope Pro II some years ago and I'm around the 105kg mark and float like a buffalo on techy stuff... never really been touched with a spoke key since and no issues
