Would anyone* care to guess what the specific use for this item is? ... it is bikepacking related.

It's smaller than the photo suggest.

clips look too big for poles so I guess they go on the bike somewhere like the seatpost/frame

Is it some sort of fancy aid to carry a bike on your shoulder through a nasty BB200 hike-a-bike section?

and no.

Taylor's nearest so far ... obviously Zippy might be nearer but until someone can decipher, we won't know.

Is it for holding your handlebar in a fixed position while you use it to support your tarp?

I er mean do you put the poles through the middle of that hose section, so you can then hang er socks or tie guides or something to it? Or it allows adjustment of clips up and down a pole for something....Image just not quite sure what.

There's gotta be some reason for it being a hose though

Okay, some good guessing but nothing quite right.

A few clues ... it is something to do with poles, it isn't anything to do with the actual bike. Think how it might be used with a shelter.

Is it a ridgeline for a very small tarp set up?

Hold together two poles so you can have a wider entrance at the front of a pitch

Brother Smith has an MLD 'mid and wanted to use 2 poles rather than 1 ... as Ben says, to increase the internal space and make entry / exit easier. The problem with using 2 poles to form an A frame is trying to hold the things together / inplace while you get it pitched, hopefully this is a solution.

Told you it was dull

Hmm, turns out that reason is flexibility and nothing to do with the putting stuff down the hollow bit

Awesomes, so I win?!

Which mid?

I have a Spinntex Mid, which is a spinnaker supermid. It's massive so not short of space, but if I want more on one side I tend to lean the poles rather than put them upright

I've been meaning to get you to make me a pole for it but in reality I only use it if I'm walking so I use walking poles. One day I'm going to find time to do a motorcycle tour, i'll be sending my request in then.

golite used to do an adjustable pole that was perfect, but they stopped sending stuff to the UK, and then went bust!

Probably

I like the ability to give me a way of adjusting the height by a few inches though, gives me a ability to vent or button down the hatches

It's a Solomid, kicked pole works but still eats internal space. It's also stronger and taught ear with A frame pitch
