2017 Big Trip to where?

Post by Richpips »

A new thread to follow on from the other.

So it looks like people are intersted in going somewhere? .

3+/- weeks.

Patagonia, Siberia hae been mentioned, maybe Mongolia.

Suggestions please.

Not sure I could get 3 weeks for myself but I'd love to go to Mongolia.

Not quite as "epic" but I'd also like to go to the Carpathian mountains.

Some specific ideas of route might be an idea too.

Even Scotland is a big place.

I'd love to go back to Iceland and do the interior routes. You could do it from Rejkjavik up the F35 to Akureyri, restock with food (and coffee) and then go and travel on some of the harder routes (with fords) towards the Icecap. Pop out in the south of the Island and then go do the Landmannalaugar trek by bike to finish it off. Easy way to kill 3 weeks, have an adventure and still not have to travel too far.

I have always fancied the Patagonia expedition race because it looks amazing down there so a trip down South
would tick all the right boxes for me
Alaska and Tien Shan would also be amazing.

I'd love Iceland (been there once before but not riding), but don't count on my vote and I wouldn't get a 3 week pass

I like it when i look at things like this & see that we've won it more than any other country-

Can't begin to say how much i'd want to join you all on this kind of adventure, but i'd really struggle to get 3 weeks off work :|

Patagonia would definitely get my vote, although most of the options sound pretty exciting. I'm sure I can engineer 3 weeks away from work/home, but not sure I could justify buying a fad bike on top of what will be an expensive trip!

It sounds like you had a proper trip planned there Richard!
Any trip that neck of the woods is going to be big bucks for logistics I reckon.
Iceland in comparison will be cheap and easy to get to, no need to wait till 2017 for a trip there.
I'm guessing you were after a bigger challenge.

I visited Tibet a few years ago and was awestruck by the place the only problem is that independent travel will be a problem, you'd have to arrange for a guide, which I doubt fit's in with your thoughts?

I think it'd be good to re-do the journey to the centre of the earth, but perhaps via a different route. Come in from the north, maybe?

Rich We have a 500km ish version of the HTR, with the difference that there's no resupply options on route, ( just as a warm up you know)

Parts of Wales are beyond the reach of the internet. That makes it pretty remote in my book....

Ok, I live here already, but... Australia.

More than big enough to spend weeks at a time, 'out bush', but also the ability to re-stock and re-supply easily. Also, able to shoe-horn in the tourist/beach/sightseeing stuff and convince the other half to let it actually happen, perhaps?? :-bd
