Ford Fiesta GR sent.
The grid references for the Ford Fiesta have left the building and should be dropping into inboxes across the country ... if yours doesn't arrive by midday:
1/ Look in the account connected to your paypal account 'cos that's where it's gone.
2/ Check the spam folder for the account.
3/ Check your other accounts just in case.
4/ Check the spam folders for all your accounts.
5/ Get in touch with whoever entered you, if you didn't actually pay then I won't have an email address for you.
6/ Email me - stuart@bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk

Got mine. Maps are 175 miles away. Bugger!
Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
Got the email - but I'm at work and maps are at home!
Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
Package received Big Bear...
Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
Got mine, am glad that I 'work' from home as the maps are handy.
Any ideas on a good pub so far for an evening drink?

Depends where your heading to?bookwyse wrote:Any ideas on a good pub so far for an evening drink?
The Penrhos Arms on the A470 and the Black Lion in Talybont are both quite decent
Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
Cheers Chew, looks like one or both of those might be on the route we plan.
Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that a grid reference in the middle of Llyn Cwn-byr (reservoir?) does not count as a ford?
Going to need more than waders for that one! ;-)

Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
So this is my first time at trying to do routing for this kind of event.
Following a BB200 thread I am trying bikehike.co.uk for routing. However, the search does not seem to accept grid references.
So at the moment I am using Chew's suggestion of http://gridreferencefinder.com/gmap.php# then clicking "Find POST CODE for this point", putting that into bikehike and then by eye finding the grid reference point (which obviously in the middle of nowhere is some distance from the nearest post code).
As I add more points bikehike is creating a route.
However, I don't seem to be able to change the order of the points in the bikehike route. As Stu has clearly not listed the points in a particular route order this is proving somewhat unhelpful as a technique.
I guess I need a step where I can simply mark all the GR's as points and then decide which to visit and how to connect them. Is that best done as places on a google map or some other website or am I best to revert to paper?

Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
The easiest way (IMO) is to mark them on paper maps and work from there. I often find an obvious route will present itself when you look at them laid out like this.

Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
Thanks.
This off road routing is weird.
On bikehike there are plenty of clearly marked bridleways that are invisible on the satellite as well as clear tracks on the satellite that are not on the OS map.
Do we need to spend more resources on cartography in Wales?

No, no, no ... that would make life boring.Do we need to spend more resources on cartography in Wales?
Mid-Wales is blessed with more legal 'tracks' than anywhere outside of Scotland, we're also blessed with one of the smallest populations which results in many tracks vanishing on the ground. Trying to decide what is / isn't rideable is all part of the fun ... and will often result in some memorable rides for both good and bad reasons
If you're unsure of something, just ask. There's plenty of knowledge regarding where to go / not go on here ... often gained through an ill-advised death march or two.

Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
yep lots of fords, now they are all in the correct route order.
On the west side of the Carno Wind farm, SN 904952 seems to be 102m from SN 904953, is that correct or could it be a typo?

Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
cool I assumed it was that ford rather than the two exact coords.
Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
doh - ignore me!
Re: Ford Fiesta GR sent.
Have been away from a 'puter all day (and not likely to get near one until Saturday now), but has anyone worked out the distance required to get round all the waypoints?
