Silnylon tarp, it's 1.5m x 3.3m. That may seem like an odd size but it allows you to either double the thing over and form a grounsheet if you fancy or you can fit 2 people under it, laid end to end. You'll get an idea of size from the picture (MYOG groundsheet not included). Packs down nice and small and weighs a whopping 365g. £30 posted if anyone wants it.

do you think this tarp would be suitable for me???

it'd need to fit me in it (i'm 6'2"), be able to be supported by nothing but pegs and being strung to/from parts of my bike and, ideally, perform some kind of ground-sheet service.

i wasn't going to bother looking for a new tarp but this is half the weight of my existing DD Tarp (700g+) and i'm very keen to keep things sensible (weight-wise) for my big trip (and.....who am i kidding, for general 'look how light my stuff is' purposes).

If it's stopped snowing in the morning I'll bicycle it up with a bike and take some pictures, etc. I've got something in mind, it'll involve a 'tarp clip' but should give you what you're after.

Ten minutes this morning reveals that you can bicycle it so it'll make a canopy 6'2" long but you only get a partial ground sheet rather than a full length one. You could increase the groundsheet but you'll either lose height or shorten the canopy in the process.

i like the minimalist look of it set-up like that (and it's half the weight of my existing tarp).

if i find from testing that i really need more ground-sheet coverage then i can always just pack a little scrap of tarp for my feet - no?

Gairym - a good very light weight alternative is the stuff they sell as secondary 'double glazing' - very light and supposedly puncture resistant as per http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/210014 but also sold by people like Gossamer Gear http://www.winwood-outdoor.co.uk/acatal ... Sheet.html (I'm fairly sure it's the same stuff) and you'd be able to find that in 'Mr Bricolage'..... you could chop it to fit and have some spare for a few quid. HTH.

For the avoidance of doubt I meant as an extension to the groundsheet not as a substitute for Stu's excellent tarp. :)
