It does need a stand ... and the cone acts as a stand and windshield in one. Obviously there's no stand / windshield shown in the pic so you can see the stove.

This is a Caldera Cone

ok idiot question time, I've wondered this for a while but now it seems appropriate to ask...

what are the benefits of this type of cone/stove to a more "traditional" one were the pot sits on it with a simple wrap-a-round wind shield?
Wait for me...

The cone pretty much encases the stove and pot completely so blocks out a lot of wind. The cone shape also directs the heat towards the pot before it goes out of the 'exhaust' vents at the top ... it's also very stable.

Hi Stu. I recall you saying before you were selling titanium sheets at the wrt this year. Do you still have some for sale and if so what size and monies would you like?

Not Ti only aluminium ... trust me, I've looked high and low for Ti sheet of the right size and grade.

After rather a lot of time and way too many prototypes the final configuration is sorted. There's been a few changes take place with the main one being the addition of a second 'wall' to act as a flame damper and allow the stove to operate in a wider range of conditions, ie not optimal conditions. I've also used stupidly expensive ceramic sponge for the wick as it won't burn at all ... not even singe

The second wall has pushed the weight up to 20g and slowed the boil times a little but combined with the new wick has upped efficiency.

I think you've done a cracking job there and really like the look of it. Can I ask which pot/diameter it is optimised for and furthermore will it be in the online shop soon :0)!?

So far I've tried everything from a 450ml mug to a big old kettle and it works okay with all of them, however something the size of a Mytimug or MSR Titan kettle would be ideal ... I do have a tapered windshield for it that isn't pot specific which makes life easier.

I'm hoping to get the first batch sorted out next week.

Hopefully it'll be available with or without a windshield / pot stand ... it's very much designed to work with the stove rather than just there to block the wind.

Cool, a complete set up designed to work together suits me. Shall keep an eye on this thread.

Looks very good...

Is this all because you saw me assembling my 'stove of many coke cans' and put a splinter into your mind? (the twitch was evident)

Does this mean I really should buy one out of courtesy? (It seems you've been on with this for a few months)

Maybe I'll buy one and next time just bring 'stove of many coke cans' anyway :-bd

Er, I suppose in a roundabout way you are to blame ... twitch is a lingering throwback to 'Nam.

I'll gift you one due to the above.

In the words of Cyprus Hill ... "No one realises just how tough this stove making sh1t is, you really have to be in it before you can really appreciate it. It's even tougher than the drug game, 'cos in the drug game if someone jerks ya, you can just shoot 'em and kill 'em"

I've had a very busy month so have only just got round to some final testing and so far so good. As I mentioned before, adding the second wall has slowed the burn down but has increased fuel efficiency, so 15ml of fuel will boil 0.5L of water with the stove fully open. Weight's 21g inc' simmer band.

Works fine with anything from a 450ml mug upwards and the windshield / stand will fit inside a Mytimug or anything else taller than 100mm. I've also made another windshield designed for a 750ml Vargo Sierra 'cup' ... it works like a cone but in reverse.

The 'simmer' function works really well with 10ml of fuel burning for 25 minutes ... full blown 'cooking' could be the future :-bd

Very soon - promise. It's taken longer than anticipated because I really wanted it to be as good / simple as it could be, hopefully we've now reached that point :-bd
